Whoever thought of calling the 10 week space between school years "summer vacation" must have had serious mental issues. Summer, yes. Vacation, not in any sence of the word. So far my summer vacation has been crammed packed with things that need done and it seems as if it's only going to get more hectic. summer vacation, yeah right.
School got out last wenesday. Rick & Vicki were already here when we got home. I ended up subbing on the last day of school because Allyssa's teacher's father died that morning. It was sad. It was her last year of teaching first grade too, not that that would have been her first thought ofcourse, but she'll be sad later that she mssed the last day. Her dad fell the day before & called her before he went to bed saying he had a headache and would call the dr in the morning if it was still there. He was 92. He played golf 4 times a week and was the primary caretaker for his wife who had a stroke 4 years ago and is in a wheel chair. She woke up at 4am and tried to wake him up to take her to the bathroom and he was dead. I feel so sorry for her. I can not even image. Anyway, I just told the children that she had to go out of town and then I had them each make her a card. I think that will cheer her up a little, later on, I hope.
So anyway~ Our friend Pat got the job with the sherrif's dept and will be her sunday to get a sc drivers license and then in two weeks he'll drive back out here and stay. Robyn will stay in Las Vegas until their house sells and then she'll come out here. They'll stay here with us until they buy a house. The only down side of this, is that everyone knows that I'm not a dog person and they'll be bringing their two huskys along with them. *sigh*
Ok, back to summer vacation......It's lookin' to be busy here. Aside from Pat being here and Robyn soon too, On saturday starts music lessons for the Allen children. Allyssa will be taking violin and Todd will be taking the piano. Then starting on June 12th are swimming lessons for the Allen children. Mon. thru Thursdays at noon. We have to sprinkle our official "playdates" with the schhol friends in here too. We had one today for about 3 hours. The Skerritt children were here, all three of them. In June we add ice skating lessons to the mix. These lessons will be at 11am, these are for Allyssa only. We will go directly from ice skating lessons to music lessons.
School starts back up on August 8th and girl scouts will start back up in september.
Oh, I almost forgot, starting on Tuesday I am repainting the united states map on the asphault on the playground at the elementry school. I volunteered that if they purchased the paint, I'd paint it for them. It's about the size of 1/2 of a basketball court. I'll go each morning at 8am (that's when the janitor will be there to open the school) and only work for a couple of hours because it's so hot)
We went to the aquarium for mother's day and we took Allyssa ice skating for the first time on friday. THat's when she signed up for the lessons. Todd was super excited too, but as soon as he got on the ice he freaked out and started crying, so that was short lived.
I'm getting up early to mow the yard and dig up my grass on the side. I'm trying to get it all ready over there to plant a pumpkin patch. I need to get the seeds in the first week of july. So if I till over there a little each morning I should have it ready ontime. I repainted Allyssa's room and now Todd wants his re done. I told him I'd do it before school starts, I hope I can squeeze it in. I'm also wanting to catch up on the kids scrap books. I've just been dating everything and sticking it in a box instead of scraping it. So at least it's saved and dayed but I feel like I'm getting so far behind on it. I really want to work on that. We are going to go to WV the weekend before the 4th of july, we'll probably be gone a week or so. I've been cutting out babanas and curious georges today too. I'm putting up the bulletin board in TOdd's entrance hallway to his classroom. "We are going babanas in KE" (each kindergarten has it's own letter...KA, KB, KC, KD, KE)And on the first day of school we'll take each ones picture and put it on a bunch of bananas.
My sister has been in the hospital for the past week, her boys want to come early. THey would be 11 weeks early now. So the want them to stay in and cook a little longer. Brandi's baby will be here in two weeks.
And here are some pictures of some of the things we've been doing with our time......
