yesterday, meghan & i went to a psychic for tarot card readings. the man sat in a little tent made of teal sheets in the back of the wiccan, magic, & curiosity shop on barrington. he was wearing a white button down shirt (the buttons were popping from his large gut) & a black suede vest. he wore glasses & his graying hair tied back in a ponytail. he spoke quickly & had a bit of a drawl; quebecois slurred into his thick east coast accent. he lowered his chin, bringing his eyes close without moving his face, when he was predicting things. his hands tapped & knocked & spread & flipped with a fumbling grace, moving things around like he knew what he was doing, speaking with enough dramatic pauses to make us questionable. "things may look bleak, but they'll work out," he told her. "this is what i see, & this is what i say." on a day like yesterday, nothing was bleak! i lived vicariously & optimistically through meghan's predictions & then we sat outside drinking frozen hot chocolates & green tea chillates to think about the not-so-distant future. then we flew a kite in the library park!
i have been doing a lot of stoop-ing lately. eating oatmeal & drinking coffee on the front stoop, reading novels & drinking red wine on the back stoop - the fire escape scaling our back wall. i am going to miss this charming little city, sometimes, & for a while.
