http://turnthepageover.livejournal.com/81891.html “I’m awake!” he yawned, sitting up and nudging me as he rubbed the sleep from his eyes. “We’re being summoned. Come on.”
I laughed, sitting up and watching him swipe Josie up in his arms, making her squeal as he carried her out of the
bedroom.
I got out of bed, grabbing a pair of pajama pants and pulling them on. My hands brushed over my small hint of a baby bump and I smiled, rubbing it gently.
“Merry Christmas, baby,” I muttered, hearing my name being yelled from the living room.
I walked into the room, seeing Josie had already began dragging the presents into a pile.
“How do you even know those are all for you?” I asked her, cocking an eyebrow.
“They say my name!” she answered.
“How do you know?! You don’t know how to read,” I told her, hearing Alex laugh and she huffed.
“That say Josie!” she said, pointing to the name tag of the present she currently had.
“Actually, that says Jack,” I informed her and she gave me a look.
“But good job recognizing the j, baby girl,” Alex told her, giving her a smile.
“You Jack?” she asked, pointing at me and I nodded.
“Yes, I am Jack,” I told her, holding my hands out, “so that’s my present.”
She handed it to me before grabbing a
hold of the next one.
“This one for daddy,” she stated.
“How do you know?” I asked, itching my stomach.
“It has no j,” she stated simply and I laughed. “Read it.”
“It says Alex.”
“That’s daddy,” she said, standing up and carrying the present to him.
“Thank you, mama. You’re so smart,” he praised her as he took it, making her grin.
“Come on, big girl. After you
open all your presents we can get dressed and go to Meme’s,” I told her and she cheered, running over to begin ripping open her presents.

“Hi, Josie!” May called out as we walked in the door of my mom’s house.
“Auntie!” the three year old squealed, running into her open arms.
“Merry Christmas, tiny,” May said, kissing her niece on the cheek.
“Merry Christmas,” she giggled, hugging the woman tightly.
“Uncle Matt is in the kitchen if you wanna go say hi,” May said, setting her down and Josie grinned.
“Mickey Matt!” she squealed, taking off towards the living room and Alex and I laughed.
“It’s a useless effort. She’s being calling him that since she started talking,” I told May and she nodded.
“She loves her Mickey Matt,” Alex added and May laughed.
“Yeah, I know,” she said before opening her arms for me to hug her. “Merry Christmas, baby brother.”
“Merry Christmas,” I told her, wrapping her in a hug and giving her a squeeze. “How are you feeling?”
“Great, actually,” she said, nodding and rubbing her stomach. “I haven’t felt the need to puke my guts out yet today.”
“Well score,” I told her and she laughed.
“How about you?” she asked, touching my belly gently and I nodded.
“I’m awesome. My stomach is just insanely itchy,” I told her, rubbing my fingers over the skin next to my belly button.
“Awh! He’s growing!” she said excitedly and I laughed.
“I sure hope so. I wanna feel him move,” I told her and she grinned.
“Him?” Alex asked and I nodded.
“Better be a him. If you gave me another girl I’m going to cry,” I told him and he laughed. “If it is a boy, you’re getting snipped, because I’m not doing this again.”
He frowned, making a face at me. “Um, can we discuss that later?”
I shook my head and he shied away slightly, making May laugh.
“How are you, Alex?” she asked, moving in to give him a hug. “Merry Christmas.”
“I’m great,” he answered, and I felt him brush my side with his hand, making me smile.
I slipped away as they talked, going into the kitchen and seeing my mom cooking bacon, sausage, and pancakes.
“Hi, mama,” I said, and she looked over at me with a smile.
“Oh, hello, sweetheart. I didn’t know you were here,” she said, moving closer to give me a hug and a kiss on the cheek.
“Josie didn’t come in and announce our arrival?” I asked and she shook her head.
“No, she didn’t. Where is that little munchkin?”
“May told her Matt was in the living room and she took off to go see him,” I told her and she laughed.
“Joe, Meghan, and your dad are in there too, so she probably got distracted,” she explained and I nodded.
“She’s probably getting eaten up then,” I said with a laugh. “Alex is here.”
“He is?” she asked, giving me a grin. “I wasn’t sure he’d be here. I’m glad.”
“He stayed over last night and we talked a little bit about the new baby,” I told her and she nodded, flipping one of the pancakes on the skillet. “I think he’s finally starting to get excited about it. He’s coming to my appointment with me on Monday.”
“Good. I told you he just needed time.”
“Meme!” Josie yelled as she came running into the kitchen, hugging her grandmother’s legs tightly.
“Why hello there, princess,” my mom answered, leaning down and picking the small girl up. “Tell Meme what Santa brought you!”
“Dollies!” she exclaimed, grinning happily and my mom laughed.
“Really? Are they baby dolls?” she questioned and Josie nodded.
“Mhm,” she hummed. “I got two!”
“Did you? What else did you get?”
“I hope she’s as excited for a real baby as she is for those baby dolls,” Alex said as he wrapped his arms around me from behind, resting his hands on my stomach and I chuckled.
“Doubt it,” I answered, running my thumbs over his.

“Hello, boys,” Alex’s mom greeted as we came to the door. “Oh, is she sleeping?”
“Yeah, she passed out on the way over,” Alex said, carrying a sleeping Josie into the house.
“You can just lay her on the couch,” she told Alex, touching the sleeping girl’s hair with a gentle smile. “She fell asleep with her tiara on?”
“My brother gave it to her with a dress up set, and she demanded to wear it over here to show you,” I told her and she laughed.
“Such a silly girl,” she said, gesturing for Alex and I to follow her into the kitchen after laying a blanket over Josie. “Are you two hungry?”
“No, I’m still pretty stuffed from all the food Joyce made,” Alex said, rubbing his stomach and making a face.
“Jack?”
“No, I’m okay,” I said, giving her a smile.
“Are you sure? I can make some tea if you like,” she said and Alex nodded.
“Tea would be nice,” he told her, mostly so she would stop insisting.
“I’m glad you’re here, Jack. Alex wasn’t sure if you’d be coming,” she told me.
“We didn’t really plan that well this year,” I said with a shrug, sitting down at the table.
“How are you feeling? How’s the baby?” she asked, putting the kettle on the stove before coming to join us at the table.
“Everything seems fine so far. I go for my first appointment on Monday,” I told her and she smiled.
“How exciting!”
“Is dad here?” Alex asked, glancing around the kitchen.
“Yes,” his mother answered, making a face at her son’s obvious attempt to avoid his father. “He’s upstairs tinkering with something.”
“Okay,” Alex answered, making his mother frown.
“Alex, it wouldn’t hurt to try talking to your father. You never know, you two might be able to patch things u-”
“I don’t want to patch things up with him, mom,” Alex said, making Isobel sigh.
“I’m only saying he’s your father. He’s not going to be here forever.”
“I don’t want to talk about this right now,” Alex said quickly and I bit my cheek, holding in a sigh. “It’s Christmas. Let’s focus on that.”
I nudged his leg with my foot, shooting him a look and he sighed.
“I’m sorry, mom. I just don’t want anything to ruin the mood today. The holidays are supposed to be full of cheer.”
“It’s alright, dear,” she said, standing up as the kettle whistled.
