So I ordered a stylus, and the stylus arrived, and, although the stylus was an elliptical diamond sort, and did indeed give a more complete harmonic spectrum than previous styli, the bloody thing also couldn't track to save its own life, and made a bizarre and highly worrying scraping noise whenever it played anything. I have returned the stylus. One day I will again get a replacement that works first time; it hasn't happened for a few years, although the faults, to their credit, have been many and varied. I want a new turntable anyway, but I don't really want it yet, and nor can I even pretend to afford it.
The result is that I am listening to DIGITAL music. It is horrific. Moreover, my last.fm has gone crazy, being used to hardly ever being bothered and suddenly having to cope with quite a lot of plays. And is generating all sorts of silly statistics because of insufficient data, such as 'Manic Street Preachers are your most played band'.
