Fighting the costuming urge again.

When creativity grabs me by the brain an runs off...I can only follow and hope I don't pass out.

I watched Pride and Prejudice earlier...and am now watching Phantom of the Opera. Both are time frames well within my interest zone. I have REALLY wanted, for a long while now, to do proper Regency era costumes for myself and M.

Proper costumes mean appropriate shoes and decent fabrics.

Thus far I have been able to mostly resist this desire to create two relatively expensive costumes. I gave in once, to buy a regency corset pattern (which I am now not entirely sure its one that I want, however, I will still use it for obvious, money-saving reasons.

Veering slightly off track for a moment, I really wish sometimes M and I could get on one of those renovation design shows for this room. Not that I need the design part of it, but it would be just easier to have someone else design and renovate the room to make it more organized and...well, just better.

On the other hand....if my mom would just give in and let us have the much larger room my sister is in, and convert my room into her sewing/crafting room, all would be roses. But...I think I may have to present with a grandchild in order to necessitate the extra room. (Tho from my point of view, that has already been determined. The necessary part, not the baby part.)

Back to the costuming. I'd like to make the regency corset in black, for club wear or something...but without it being boned, I don't really think I'm thin enough to pull it off without a nice Empire waist Regency dress to cover it. :P All sorts of ideas come to mind...none of which I can execute at the moment. I just keep writing my ideas down in my design book...maybe someday I'll have the room/money to do something with them. (This is where my fears for this country and the future of the world rear their ugly heads....perhaps in a couple years none of us will be here to do ANYTHING...or we may have far more important, survival things to worry about than costuming.

And then there's the specially ordered tartan fabric I have. I wanted to make it to wear at the Renfaire this year, but I don't know if I can even GET to the faire, much less go in garb. I was going to go tomorrow, but I have no one to go with, and it's a very boring 3 hour drive.

And...of course...there's two new books on costuming coming out this fall. No birthday gifts from the in-laws (MIL usually buys me books) this year. They're paying off the hubby's credit card so we can start slowing the hemorrhage of money we've been living with for 4 years. Not complaining...just wishing costuming books were cheaper. :P

Anyhow, I'm off tomorrow. I will drag my 18th century gown out of the closet and see what sort of embellishments I can wrangle for it. finarfiniel has shot down every reason I have for not doing so and skipping the wearing of said gown at Dragon Con. :P I admit freely that I love the gasps I got from people in the hotel lobby when I wore it for Halloween, so she doesn't have to twist my arm too much. I'm just mentally exhausted Every Single Day, regardless of what the day was like. This thyroid thing makes me furious...and I have to flat out ignore the fatigue or I will simply say Fuck It, to every one and every thing and lay on my bed, watching TV and helping said thyroid destroy my attempts at weight loss.

So...tomorrow I will see what scraps of silk I have left. Perhaps I will grab my coupon and head to Joann Fabrics to see if they have any decent gold lace. (and here the happy idea of using drapery rope, tassels and bits for a Victorian gown rears its head and laughs evilly.) I desperately wanted to do some crewel embroidery on the stomacher, but there's NO time for that. I'll make something mostly temporary and see about the embroidery over the winter when I'm sitting at the store, bored to death. :P

Alrighty....time to finish my chai, then get to my stash of 18th century pics to decide on some easy to do trimming. *headdesk*

So tired. Midnight already. I hate closing the store at 8.
