local pride/nerdiness and pronunciation

So I mentioned this in my last comment and figured I might as well link to it. It's the New Orleans pronunciation guide or How ta tawk rite. It'll help you avoid looking like a vunerable new college student and help you to get around New OR-linz more easily. I especially like these two entries:

UPTOWN, DOWNTOWN, LAKESIDE, RIVERSIDE - The four cardinal points of the New Orleanian compass. "North, south, east, west" do not work in New Orleans.
and
TULANE - Pronounced TOO-lane. Never, ever pronounce this tu-LANE, or you'll immediately be mistaken for a college student from New Jersey (which you might be, in this case).

So the rest of this is all at the link above and is of course somewhat exaggerated, but we honestly do call our streets CAL-ee-ope (Caliope) and bur-GUN-dee (Burgundy) and cuh-ron-doh-LET (Carondelet).

And don't say New Or-LEENZ. Please.
