COMMENTS: Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, and our nation was the most prosperous in the world. We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids. What happened? And NOW I have to "press 1" for English?
I hope this goes around the world 10 times! "

and i hope this person realizes that "pressing 1 for English" in no way relates to the fact that we have more taxes now than ONE HUNDRED YEARS AGO.  also, do you think perhaps a war that costs us $255 million a day could have anything to do with it? (see costofwar.com for a fun scrolling graphic!)  because i am upset at the ignorance of this comment and have nothing better to do with my life, i also discovered that the US national debt in 1907 was $2,457,188,061.54 (i have no fucking clue where we got the 54 cents.  interest rocks!).  we do have almost 3500 times the debt now and i'm sure that's due to the taxes we've added.  additionally, what the hell does "Mom staying at home to raise the kids" have anything to do with more taxes?  did Mom getting a job suddenly make Senator Whatshisface decide to create the Hunting License tax?  or was it because Senator Whatshisface's Mom was at her job instead of at home raising him like a good woman that he decided to take revenge on the entire nation for his mommy's neglect by introducing a new tax?!  and if so, it wasn't a very powerful type of revenge, because the most expensive hunting license fee for a Massachusetts resident in MA is a whole $35.00.

seriously, what leads people to say these things?  i'm not incredibly capable of making salient political points, nor do i understand everything or really most of what goes on with the government, but at least i try not to make stupid comments about unrelated things.
