Applique examples V&A Museum

Feb 19, 2013 17:16

I didn't have a lot of time at the V&A last spring, also, most of the collection of historic clothing was in storage, there is a new facility being created. This is posted for eliskimo. Please note, I'm a novice in the SCA and don't know much about period sewing techniques, zafania, however does know a lot.
However, here are some images from my visit that might be helpful in re-creating period techniques.

There was this amazing wall hanging. All done in applique. Wish I had an image that showed the stitching better. I can email you full size images.

The next image is a close up of the stitching used to applique the embroidered panels to a reproduction caftan. It seemed to my untutored eye, to be very similar to the stitching used on the wall hanging.
