seeing as how i have a ten hour drive to south dakota, i feel like compiling a list of my favorite all time albums and why they are my favorite. so i'm just gonna go through my itunes in alphabetical order and write my favorites and why they are my favorites. i don't give a shit if you don't feel like reading it. by all means, skip through it. i just want to have this to look back on. kbye.
in alphabetical order by album:
...Burn Piano Island, Burn- The Blood Brothers
when i first heard this cd, all i could think was holy shit.. this is some intense shit. i think this was my first experimenting with the whole hardcore genre, even though i later found that this doesn't really fit the hardcore mold. but this is what got me interested in intense music with screaming i guess.
A Collection of Songs Written and Recorded 1995-1997- Bright Eyes
to this day, collection is one of my biggest influences of recording styles for my acoustic stuff. this album was my second bright eyes album that i had, so it holds a special place in my heart. i honestly don't like all the songs on the cd, but there are a lot of good ones. this just shows you how much conor has grown as an artist over the years.
Blue Album- Weezer
this is still my all time favorite weezer album. by the way, fuck anyone who says weezer was the first emo band. you're all a bunch of idiots.
C'mon Miracle- Mirah
dave and dennis got me really into k records, and mirah is one of my favorite artists on the label. her words are surprisingly honest, and her voice is beautiful and clear.
Canada Songs- Daughters
what a fucking crazy group of motherfuckers. cd's so short that they put artwork on both sides. FILLER. think of killing a bunch of pregnant women, picture 3 bulldogs eating the corpse of a deer, add in some fucked up s&m porno, and record it for fifteen seconds. fucking amazing.
Fingers Become Bridges- Tiny Hawks
i remember first hearing this when dennis let me borrow the cd and just being like what the fuck. this cd is just fucking that good. i don't want to talk about it, because trying to describe it will take away from what it actually is. go out and get this now.
Frail Words Collapse- As I Lay Dying
i still love it.
Full Collapse- Thursday
i don't care what anyone says. full collapse is still my guilty pleasure. call me an emo fag. so much has been said about this album by so many other people, so i won't say anything other than thursday puts on an unforgettable show.
Give Up- The Postal Service
i cannot tell you how many times i've sat down in front of my computer to try and make something because i listened to give up and was like.. i can do that. well, i can't. give up is something that kids of all groups can enjoy together. it's just a pretty little cd.
He No Wa- Mahi Mahi
favorite dance band.
Hella/Dilute Live Split- Hella & Dilute
i'm not sure the official title of this ep. me and dennis stole it from newbury comics back in the day, and it was one of the best decisions i have ever made in my life. the energy that dilute creates on their portion of the cd is amazing. sickroom is still one of the most amazing songs i have ever heard. hella's live tracks are wildly tight, which is a surprise compared to my experience with their live shows. this cd captures the essence of both bands.
Hold Your Horse Is- Hella
what can i say about this cd. it's fucking hella. this is what got me into the whole math/noise scene. any musician can appreciate this album. it's just fucking crazy, and you need to get it.
Letting Off The Happiness- Bright Eyes
my first bright eyes cd. i don't know if it's still my favorite, but this is how i grew to know and love bright eyes. i still listen to it, and it is as good as it was 3 years ago. it's 1:43 right now.
Live At The Roxy- Frank Zappa and the Mothers Of Invention
my favorite album growing up. biggest influence of guitar today. i love it forever.
Midnight Marauders- A Tribe Called Quest
my favorite hip hop cd. this is what i think hip hop is meant to be. just listen to it.
Pink Moon- Nick Drake
probably my favorite acoustic cd. nick drake is an amazing guitarist, and why songwriter. this is a beautiful album to listen to while watching the stars.
Scenes One Through Thirteen- Hot Hot Heat
this is a collection of songs from old hot hot heat 7 inches before they changed into who they are today. it's all fucking raw recordings of just drums, bass, and keyboard. the vocalist who is no longer in the band sounds like a whinier blood brothers screamer, and all the sounds blend together to give you a fucked up soundscape that i adore.
Tea For The Tillerman- Cat Stevens
i grew up listening to this album with my mom, and it is still one of my all time favorites.
The Advantage- The Advantage
nintendo love.
The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan- Bob Dylan
my favorite dylan album.
The Fruit That Ate Itself- Modest Mouse
the great indie sounds of modest mouse mixed with the legendary recording style of clavin johnson make this record a good story.
The Glow Pt. 2- The Microphones
if i had a top 3 list of favorite cds, this would be on it. i just can't explain what this cd gives me. i've spend countless nights driving around alone listening to this album in its entirety. i have no words for it. don't get this cd. you won't appreciate it.
Wonderful Rainbow- Lightning Bolt
best ever.
there's so many more, but i'm getting car sick. i'll make another later.
