Save the Internet

For all those of you who live in the US:

That is from truthout.org, but the original content was printed in the New York Times. Basically, the phone companies are lobbying the senate for control of the Internet. If they are successful, they will be able to choose which websites you can access.

For example, let's say the Yahoo search engine pays Verison or whomever. That website will function quickly and effectively, as always. But perhpas Google does not pay. Verison could restrict access by any of its customers to the Google search engine. Perhaps Google will just be slower than normal- so slow, in fact, that it will prompt many users to go to the faster Yahoo engine. But Verison could do more. They could go as far as completely blocking Google. No access. At all.

A senator from Alaska, Ted Stevens, is one of the main ass kissers of the telephone companies. But there are other senators, both Republicans and Democrats, who are opposed to something as ridiculous as eliminating net neutrality. If you live in the US, it may be a good idea to contact your senators (unless you live in Alaska I suppose).

There's more information and ways to get involved at the following websites:

Please consider visiting a few of these websites and at least learning more about what is happening before we're ass raped by the Senate. This is a very real situation. YOUR access to certain websites will be directly effected if Senator Stevens and others are not challenged.
