Buffy knew she was in for it. Boy, was she in for it. She was probably never going to hear the end of it, in fact.
It hadn’t seemed like such a bad idea at the time. She both sparred and tested herself against computer-created opponents on the holodeck regularly. Despite Dr. Crusher’s strenuous disapproval, she had gotten the security authorizations necessary to disable several of the safety features so that she would feel like she was really fighting. (She suspected the captain had intervened.)
It hadn’t surprised her when she’d discovered that Worf had surreptitiously run her program several times on his own. She’d suspected he would, as much to see what she considered challenging as to see how well she could actually program the holodeck properly. (As if having Data teach her wouldn’t make her an adequate programmer at the very least!)
It had surprised her when Worf had grudgingly asked to spar with her- she was pretty sure he was still not a fan. He was going to be even less of a fan after this.
“Buffy to Sickbay… I just wanted to let you know I’m bringing down an injury. I think I broke your Klingon.”

Dawn raised a skeptical eyebrow.
“I’m sorry, you’re making it sound like I should want to go on a quest.”
“Duh!” said Lacey, rolling her eyes.
Dawn sighed to herself, wondering yet again how it was that the rest of the camp never seemed to do anything dire to Cabin Ten. She could only deal with most of them in small doses, and couldn’t stand their counselor at all. She really hoped that Piper chick made it back alive. She was the most normal daughter of Aphrodite at camp since the Scoobies had taken up residence.
“Quests are how you prove yourself. It’s like a road trip for demigods,” Lacey explained. “You can’t just stay at camp forever.”
“Why not?” Dawn asked reasonably. “It’s much safer. Most road trips don’t feature monsters trying to kill you. And trust me, I’ve had plenty of that, without quests of any kind involved. All part of growing up in Sunnydale.”
“Well, no wonder, it being a hellmouth and so many demigods and gods in the area,” said a new voice.
Dawn looked up, happy at the prospect of a bracing dose of Cabin Six.
“Hey, Annabeth, you’re back! Any new leads on Percy?”

Buffy gritted her teeth. This had not been one of her better ideas. Note to self: next time Whistler asks for anything, say no!
Waiting for the end to come
Slayers, it turned out, couldn’t fight nukes. Couldn’t do a damned thing to stop them. Could only watch them hit, just like the rest of humanity.
Wishing I had strength to stand
She had held out, up in the hills, until the Centurions had moved in. Then she couldn’t hold back anymore. She fought for what was left of Earth. It was her duty. To her last breath. To the end of the world- which happened to be today.
This is not what I had planned
It didn’t help to know that it wouldn’t end here. Sam had sworn to her he would make sure that the other twelve tribes didn’t make the same mistakes they’d made. But he’d have to do that on his own- she wouldn’t be reborn with him. Her relay had been damaged in the initial attack.
It’s out of my control
As she threw herself into what would be her last fight, Buffy prayed the gods would give her another chance.
She hated to fail.
