People usually couldn’t find anything to remember about Earth That Was but the newest crew member definitely could. She sat in the cargo bay with a bottle of Kaylee’s hooch and silently toasted to her friends long passed.
Her shoulders heaved slightly as she thought of her sister, the one she lived for, died for, protected till the end. Little had she known when Willow had brought her back and then used her as an anchor that she would outlive them all. She had cursed her youthfulness when Dawn had gotten old, her nephews and nieces all passing her by.
But even though she had moved on and forgotten her family and friends, she had managed to find their relatives in the end.
Kaylee, descendant of Willow. Mal, great great (and so on) grandson of Xander. Zoe, many times down the line descendant of Faith and Robin. River and Simon, Dawn’s great great great grandchildren.
She swore to protect them and their families from the evils that still could be found. The Reavers, the Alliance. She would protect them from all.
And then on the anniversary of Dawn’s death, she would toast those who had passed her by. Always remembering.
