"I like the way you remember."
The king looked up, surprised at being addressed by the strange woman. She was a tiny little thing, silent as a grave most of the time. The blonde had shown up with Gandalf and the rest, though she seemed to be as big a mystery to the Ranger, Elf and dwarf as she was to him.
"What do you mean, lady?"
She settled herself on the bench beside him, looking at the maps he had spread out on the table. "Where I come from, we have silence. A moment of silence to remember and reflect. Nobody toasts, and we don't usually have parties... I like your way better."
He was honestly bewildered, "How else can we think of them? They died for us, why would we mourn that gift?" Theoden looked away, his voice becoming sad, "We must thank them and respect their deaths, even when we sometimes wish they were still here."
She nodded, and reached out to squeeze his hand lightly. "Thank you."
"For what?"
"For knowing how to remember."

Characters: Dawn, Pogue
"So? How do I look?"
"Huh? Oh, you look great."
Dawn paused, taking in the way her boyfriend's eyes remained glued to his Ducati. It was a nice bike, sure, but sometimes she wished that she didn't feel like competition.
"Caleb was looking a little lonely, I think I might go check on him."
"Uh-huh."
"Tyler's running a temperature, but I think I know just what to do to cool him down..."
"Sure."
She growled softly and barely stifled the impulse to stamp her foot, or kick over his Ducati, or do something violent! "Reid said this outfit was damn fine and if you didn't think so, he'd show me a little... appreciation..."
Pogue's head snapped up and around, eyes taking on a dangerous light. "What?"
Dawn stared at him, exasperated. "You ignore Tyler and Caleb, but the instant I say 'Reid' you pay attention? I'll bring him up more often, heck maybe I should just go hang out with him when you're working on your bike."
His eyes flared, "You stay away from Reid."
"Or what?"
Pogue's answer was not made vocally, but Dawn was satisfied all the same.

Challenge: #58
Characters: Willow, Glinda
"You travel by bubble!"
"Less pollutants!"
"You wave a magic wand?"
"Hey! You wave around smelly herbs!"
"You're wearing a goddess-blessed ball-gown!"
"They're comfortable!"
Willow dropped her head into her hands. She'd sworn to never try internet dating again after the incident with Malcolm, but after Xander found Hermione and Dawn met Pogue she felt that she had to give it a try. And this was what she got, some - some weird glittery godmother-woman-thing.
On the other hand she was really pretty, and Willow had always liked blondes. Heck, it wasn't as if she was perfect either... but she figured the world-endage conversation could be saved for the third date.
Glinda gave a piercing shriek at the sight of the shrunken heads and the redhead sighed.
Assuming there was a third date.

Challenge: #39
Characters: Logan, Xander, Willow
"C'mon, try some."
"No."
"Please?"
He sighed as the redhead pouted at him, but eyeing the wiggling treat she was trying to force on him firmed his resolution. "No," he said, but he was gentle as he shoved her hand away from his face.
"You wouldn't try a Twinkie, so you have to try this," the other one chimed in.
Logan growled under his breath. Why, had the professor assigned him to pick up the newest students? Yeah, Scott and Ororo were teaching and Jean was delivering some sort of speech to the Pentagon, but couldn't they have found someone, anyone, else?
"I think he's scared," Willow announced.
"You might be right," Xander mused thoughtfully.
"Is this your talent? Annoying the crap outta me?" He instantly regretted his harsh words when he saw their crestfallen expressions in the rearview mirror. Logan sighed, "Alright, alright, gimme the damn jello."
Both adolescents watched avidly as he balanced the little container on his leg, spooning some up and carefully lifting the wriggling mass to his lips. He chewed, swallowed, and was silent.
"He liked it," Xander pronounced.
"He really liked it," Willow agreed. "Now he has to try a Twinkie!"
Damn kids.
