The square window gets cut off
The afternoon is dyed a dark red

this is a sentence that continues on to the second line e.g. "The square window cuts out [a piece of] /An afternoon dyed dark red."

On a small street in Veranda,
I watched a light being lit

should be "I saw a light being lit on a small street from the veranda" because as far as I know there's no place called Veranda lol.
