Being Human x1
The Hobbit x9
Title:
Family MealsAuthor: _stolendreams_ (stolendreams)
Rating: PG
Pairing: none, Gen
Summary: Mitchell enjoys food just as much as any human. Unfortunately he's never learnt to cook it himself.
Why: I craved some cute being human fic and I picked this one up. It’s fantastically domestic with my three beloved monsters. Annie and George teaching Mitchell how to cook and being ridiculously cute and adorable and encouraging and acting like a family. My poor heart ;__;
Title:
Variations on a Theme; JumpAuthor: Sigridhr
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Thorin/Bilbo
Summary: The first, completely irrational, thing that Bilbo thinks is that Thorin, beneath the layers of fur and armour that he wears like a challenge to anyone who might doubt his legitimacy, is very small.
Why: Ah, this was a lovely little drabble from Bilbo’s POV on bathing and Thorin and lovely metaphors with a river and it was wistful and bit melancholic but also very sweet and not entirely sad.
Title:
Customary♥
Author: an_odd_ducky
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Thorin/Bilbo
Summary: Hobbits rub noses to greet each other - a fact the dwarves don't know until they arrive in Rivendell and Elrond greets a surprised Bilbo by rubbing their noses together. Some of the company find it quite amusing, but Thorin is less than pleased.
Why: I remember when I found this prompt on the kink meme, it was still unfilled, I snorted and then I awed, because it’s such a silly but cute prompt really! But then I thought that well, hobbits are cute creatures, they should have all the cute customs. And now I find this lovely fic and I die. This is one of those monster fluffs that will make you make dying seal noises and roll on the floor. So precious.
Title:
The Troubles of Kings♥
Author: an_odd_ducky
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Thorin/Bilbo
Summary: By the time the company reaches Mirkwood, Thorin Oakenshield is going insane with the indecent thoughts of a certain hobbit that his mind keeps conjuring. He thinks he has a solution, but the plans of kings do not always go as expected, and hearts are difficult things to understand, especially when you don't know your own.
Why: This piece is one of my favorites. It’s full of lovely tension between the characters and the resolution of it is lovely and wonderful. And I appreciate that the author decided to push it a little bit forward and give it another conflict and another resolution and it was oh just as lovely and then the abrupt (but not really) ending was gut wrenching and ambiguous. Lovely fic.
Title:
What He Cannot GiveAuthor: deathwailart
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Thorin/Bilbo
Summary: There are things he cannot give Bilbo for they are not his to give.
Why: A sad little drabble, a sort of character study of Thorin and the things he cannot give to Bilbo. I normally read only happy stuff and canon divergence, because I know HOW it’s gonna end, but once and again I go for a canon divergence and fix it, where not everything is all sunshine and rainbows. This piece gives this little inside to the exclusive nature of the dwarves’ culture and Thorin’s personal predicament. Eh.
Title:
Fourteen Pieces of Unsolicited Advice...And One Time Thorin Asked What He Should DoAuthor: cc62827
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Thorin/Bilbo
Summary: “Well, if he does appear, I can think of a few better uses for him than burglar.” His tone held a hint of lavaciousness that caught my attention. I looked sharply at him. I knew exactly which direction Dwalin’s thoughts lay. Less than a third of all dwarfs were women, and physically, they could hardly be distinguished from dwarf men until their braes came off. Even in the presence of a dwarf woman, few dwarfs regardless of sex wanted the time and distraction of marriage. Dwarf society recognized no gender constraint archetypes to consider in the slaking of our physical needs. Dwalin continued with a blithe chuckle, interrupting my thoughts. “Best to make him earn his keep on his back. Instead of burglary, he can offer his services in the form of bugga-” “Enough!” I interrupted sharply, drawing myself up to my full height and laying a hand on the hilt of my sword. “Listen to me very carefully. No one touches the Hobbit.” I let my eyes harden. “Anyone who tries will answer to me.”
Why: I normally do not go for first person POV in fic, because they do not sit well with me, but this one was a nice fic. I could compare it a bit to Thorin’s majestic diary, only it was a lot more serious and even a bit angsty.
Title:
Unknotting♥
Author: Lipstickcat
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Implied Thorin/Bilbo
Summary: It turns out that Bilbo is rather talented with his hands, and Thorin gets to enjoy his first ever massage. Bilbo would enjoy it more if the rest of the company weren't gathered around taking notes, though.
Why: OH A MASAGE FIC. AND A GOOD ONE AT THAT. It was really nice and full of delicious tension and it really focused on the massage in a not cracky way. It was very enjoyable and charming and the ending was really nice.
Title:
EvenfallAuthor: melfice
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Thorin/Bilbo
Summary: Now that you live in my chest, anywhere we sit is a mountaintop.
Why: Lovely character study of both Thorin and Bilbo with lobely interaction and how they compare themselves. I loved how Thorin’s thought were written here.
Title:
there’s fantasy, there’s fallacy, there’s tumbling stone♥
Author: brodinsons (aeon_entwined)
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Thorin/Bilbo
Summary: horin Oakenshield is imprisoned by elves and/or enemy dwarves, and to humiliate the king, they cut off his hair and shave off his beard. And after his eventual escape, starved and broken, Thorin hides out in the Shire.
Why: Oh I don’t know why I put off reading this fic for so long tbh. It was so good! And not nearly as angsty as I thought. I just love fics where they are domestic and where Thorin retires to the Shire. Really it’s such a ridiculously charming concept. Ah.
Title:
How to Offend a Hobbit ♥
Author: Sakrea
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Thorin/Bilbo
Summary: Thorin Oakenshield finds out the hard way that sharing even the smallest details of a hobbit's relationship might get him upset.
Why: And lastly. This was a gem. Thorin saying something private and embarrassing Bilbo and him being cross and angry and it’s so charming and a bit cracky, but then Thorin apologizes and it’s sweet and funny.
