Another update to VV, with my 2016 price structure ^^ Teaser pics:
I'm starting to get a bit nervous, sources for non-crazy-expensive MSC/Volks finishing powder spray seem to be dwindling crazily so if anyone reading has any leads let me know (also about wholesale sources for those pretty curled to-scale deluxe tapered lashes everyone seems to be using for faceups!)
And in other news, wow, the premiere of Vinyl (on HBO) was really good. Real immersive, real nostalgic (for a time I wasn't even around for), fairly smart in romantacizing the subject matter (rock n' roll) while holding it delicately and precariously above the swirling acid cesspool of the record industry. Serving up injections of adrenaline! Definitely Scorsese-ish, with the fanfare and performance and rides around the inside of other people's worlds. This one amazing shot of a front-lit woman singing and smacking her tambourine in a dream room. A good few such shots! And they're not planning to ignore the part of the black community in the genre and age, looks like, so that's cool ^^ I always liked Bobby Cannavale (though because of his part in Six Feet Under I often tend to think of him as "Heywood Jablome" ^^;;), and boy can he emote. Ato Essandoh is amazing, I didn't recognize Ray Romano or Andrew Dice Clay at first, good on them, and Juno Temple's performance intrigues me. I laughed, I yelped a bit, and I thought a lot about music, which is probably what they're going for. I'm excited to see where this goes!
Valentine's Day was a nice one ^^ Among other things I got R the Pete Davidson tix and he got me a crapload of candy from my favorite shop - probably a bad idea, but noms! And the lady there is SO nice - she says next time I come in I get to be customer of the month :P Whilst sampling I discovered the strange addictiveness of (what I believe are) Katjes Tappsy Fruchtlakritz, from Germany, these gummy fruit and licorice pandas with this super alluring texture, plus the subtle bitterness of the licorice really makes the fruit bits taste fruitier! I am in sugar obsession danger once again ^^;; And he also treated me to a lovely prix fixe (yeah I know) at Sauce. The highlights for me: The super cute, firm little deviled quail egg with sparkly (faceted??) caviar like jewels of salt, the flavor-bursty pickled asparagus (I really gotta get into more varied veggie pickles), the little shot of buttery lobster bisque and the warm tender New York Strip, and the lipsmacking spoon-scraping french vanilla coffee creme brulee and extra-chocolately brownie bites with peppered strawberry sauce. The other components were a bit forgettable, but these made up for it by far, and with that washed down with a honey sidecar, I wandered the streets high on my own enjoyment of tasting/ingesting XD What better way to remind myself I'm a living thing, I suppose!
Otherwise I'm doing all right! Still waiting to see if I got into my program thingie for this year, and trying very hard to keep Xcom2 playtime to late night when I don't have other stuff to do :P This weekend we're going on a Shadowrun, I owe a couple of people birthday meals next week, and next weekend, seeing sweet, brave Kellyhime and local dolly people at a gathering; it's been forever!! And back to candy, those fruit licorice pandas reminded me of another candy I used to love as a child, but have never been able to find...my dad would occasionally bring home smooth gummy purple rings, never in a marked/branded packaging but in a plastic bag...only grape, as far as I know, not sugar-covered or sour, and with an awesome firm texture. For all I know he got them at old-timey Safeway :P, or some long defunct farmers' market...I'm now on a journey to find their like. I'm gonna put that request in with my other weirdo questions in my wishlist ^^
