Halloween ^^

I'm not doing NaNoWriMo this year, I don't have the gumption/energy - but too bad, I've been having all these good story dreams lately - like one where it's regular cities/suburbs but they've been totally taken over by urban gang networks who've neutralized the police entirely and treat regular people as commodities, like they 'own' this or that neighborhood and trade/fight over them and demand whatever tribute they please (including daughters) from the people, and they've come up with this new way of speaking to the regular people, an overlordish sort of language constantly interlaced with threat/superiority. XD

Speaking of threatening networks, I have totally sunk myself into X-Com (Enemy Unknown/Enemy Within). SO fun. I'm almost through my "don't let anyone get killed" campaign. ^^ So yay, now I'm suddenly all excited for February (sequel release date)! I like having a thing to look forward to.

Speaking of excitement, Halloween was smashing. Earlier in the day I went looking for shoes for my costume (failed and ended up in my comfy whisker sneaks, thank goodness for my feet) and R took me on a treat spree at The Candy Shop and I got to see lots of adorable trick-or-treaters (and lots of slutty barcrawler costumes ^^), and then we had dinner at West of Pecos, ungh. So good. The crispy carnitas puffy tacos, so soft and savory and meaty. The sopaipillas, so pillowy. The ribs - tender with crispy edges, both sweet and sharp with vinegar, bursting with dark flavor. I went as a few personifications of death, in an abstract sense :P with my death tarot tunic, fangs and some EL wire (R was a zombie with wounds and rips and all). I gained a whole new sympathy for people who wear wigs on a daily basis, that shit takes passion. My scalp ached so much after just one full day.

But John Digweed at Mighty was AMAZING. I already liked him immensely ever since 2000 when I saw Groove and downloaded some albums off Napster :P but this just brought a whole new appreciation. Started with fun and dancing (packed like sardines again but it was ok), devolved into madness, everyone there for the same reason, me surprised but surging along with them, smiles, desires, weirdly muscular couple with Fury Road costumes, oldschool kandi kids with melon vape fumes :P And a killer set, absolutely killer. I giggle to think that Digweed knew exactly what he was in for as well, and just set up the perfect dark, glowy, sweaty trancebox where you just don't care if you get gross. I think he's big enough that he doesn't have the call to be all intimate like that but he still was. I didn't know we were still doing this kind of stuff here in SF ^^ If he comes back I'll be there!

Speaking of Fury Road costumes, right after that was relax and recover day, gaming, some painting, some lazing about, and a popcorn in bed viewing of Mad Max: The Road Warrior. So now I'm 2 movies in and I like it! Racist-ass Melly Gibsons is such a baby in these! But I like the characterization and performance of Max - stoic, hardened, quiet in somewhat of a poetic (but not really) way, but still quite childlike when viewed from 34 years in the future, lending another dimension! Does anyone ever write time perspective based reviews regularly? Maybe I'm on to something :P Anyway, nice action for the time, nice weird setting, mild transition from normal world to slightly-apocalyptic but with greater change to come, this great dusk shot of dusty bike trails and lights...of course the writing was a bit dated but I think still somewhat outside of its time...and I finally understand that the cameo in Weird Science (pretty much my favorite 80's-stereotype movie) wasn't just random, it must have been like "OH SHIT LOOK" back when it came out and everyone had fresh memories of Wez and his butt cheeks XD I even enjoyed the silly 80's styling of the repurposed outfits/armor. Mad Max-ness seems like more fun than Steampunk :P R informed me that there is a friggin' Mad Max Festival out in the desert - Wasteland Weekend? Do I want to try to go next time? :D

Speaking of going to stuff (XD), snagged tix to the new Star Wars opening night at 2 AM in Emeryville :P With a fun group, and without reserved seating so presumably there'll be some camping out! I like doing silly things like this every so often and remembering I'm here, part of this age. Even if it ends up being another Phantom Menace, I think I'll have a good time ^^
