Updated Vitta-Vera this week with a few different things! Have a pretty outtake of my Mayu in a clothing commission, and a couple other teasers:
In other news, I'm rather tired and dejected, but persevering. Benicia ocean view guy is again not answering and I'm again guessing it's a bust. There've been other listings of course but so many reasonable/nice sounding ones turn out to be scams. R was telling me about it, people hired by companies in other countries to run these scams as their job, preying on people looking for a place to live :/ whether it's out of desperation or not it makes my heart hurt - I don't like people taking advantage of others, I REALLY don't. And then the other half of places end up not answering even though we only make contact with the ones we can definitely afford, and articulate this well...and we end up wondering if it's because we're really getting constantly outbid or if our names don't sound right, you know how. One can never tell. I just want to find the honest, good people and somehow communicate to them that I am honest and good myself and not looking to swindle anyone, but it's not possible to project in a meaningful way. That plus the continuing gray weather has been sapping my spirit, but I'm just gonna work, on my work, myself and my circumstances, whatever I can, and hope things turn.
In good news we had a nice time Saturday with R's visiting cousin's family from Atlanta (where they say I should totally go if I want affordable living. They made it sound really attractive but I'm still afraid of red/magenta states). We had yummy big family dinner at Chino (but the spicy Korean rice cakes are gone! -_-) and ice cream at Mitchell's (it was cold out for it for me, but one of his cousin's tradition-type things), and then we went to Wicked freeform funk celebration with a friend at Mighty. I wasn't completely sure what freeform funk referred to :P turns out, very nineties style beats, with a little psych-hop in there, that were pretty well right up my alley! It was packed and stuffy but I found a platform and was able to lose myself for a while in dance, so that was wonderful. It's rare and many times I worry I'll forget how to do that all together and be stuck in my anxious present with no escape. I'll have another shot next week when we go to Anthem Music Fest in Vallejo (a town which now I know a little something about :P)!
To expand a bit on Shokugeki no Souma, of which we've watched all the available episodes now, it's pretty hilarious, and the food depiction/exposition makes me salivate hardcore. This is something that never really comes up in conversation, but I watch SO MUCH food competition tv. I hate the reality aspect (fake drama, frankenbites, obnoxious pauses, snotty judges etc.) but get mesmerized by the food and imagining how it tastes. When I was younger I was so entranced by Tetsujin (and Chairman Kaga kinda reminded me of my mom :P). So this anime makes me smile big with all that. Just the idea of combining gourmet food exploration with the fantasy-school troupe is sweet (I had this idea myself of a mage-bakery academy, I wonder if anything like that's been done?). The sexuality aspect of the anime is funny, really it is, but the over-the-top-ness gets a little creepy since everyone's so bloody young (as is so often the case given the demographic). I get it, honestly, if I were just into puberty and not super cognizant of the nuances of sexual relations, it might be kinda seat warming/alluring. But then you think about the production side and whether there are meetings where they're like, "Okay, how do we get the 14 year olds all hot and bothered so they'll keep watching?" aaaand creepy :P (I was never into American teen sex romps).
Speaking of Americans and anime, I finally watched Pacific Rim, which I'm assuming is an western perspective on a real-life anime. I know I'm laughably late (saw it on tv). But my god does that movie suck. The writing...the holes...the cliches...the cringy circumstances and stupid decisions...that gross song at the end...guh! By the public response when it came out I thought it was going to be good :P It's weird when you compare it to a similar swashbuckly, silly sort of sci-fi action flick, but an awesome one, like The Fifth Element, for instance, and note the similarities in terms of hyperbolic characters and settings, but the endd result is SO DIFFFERENT.
My keyboard keeps doubling Ds and Fs, gotta clean the thing out :P
