It's funny that ever since I started my diet, I think I have been making more desserts than I ever have previously. There is some logic behind this though, because I can't live life without desserts, Sunday night has become dessert night, and it is the only day of the week that I allow myself a dessert. Of course because I only get one dessert a week I make certain that the sweet concoction kicks ass. This is no whimpy dessert! It is all out with a graham cracker crumb crust, a layer of chocolate ganache made with real whipping cream and Ghiradelli bittersweet chocolate chips, then my special addition is a layer of coarsely chopped Reese peanut butter cups, immediately followed by a peanut butter mousse made with awesome and of course more whipping cream. Then I decided to be fancy and decorate it with more chopped Reese cups.
I think this pie is a good pie to make around Halloween, because I always start thinking about Halloween candy once I see the plastic pumpkins and candy corn. Of course my mother would always hand out Reese cups every Halloween, so I've been almost conditioned to desire a choco-pb sweet around this time of year. Anyway, if anyone else is wanting to make a nice Halloween sweet, I got the base pie recipe off of epicurious:
http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/235617 If you want to make it with Reese cups too, just add maybe about 5 coarsely chopped pb cups between the layers of chocolate ganache and peanut butter mousse. You can also opt to add another cup or two if you want denser coverage. Don't forget to save some though to make the pretty decor on top!
PS: Whip your cream by hand to burn off the calories of the sampling you do! LOL XD
