Summary : Yuto always love his work. Taking any random moments photo at random place. One fine Sunday morning, his life suddenly changed.
While packing my things, the door suddenly opened and there stand my room mate, Keito.
"Are you sure you're going there alone?" He asked me. Must've be worried about my decision last night. Knowing how protective Keito is, I only chuckled and nodded my head.
"It's not funny, Yuto." He groaned.
"Dude..you act more than my mom now." As I tapped his shoulder. "Relax~! I'll bring you lots of photo later." I said to him before walked out from our dorm.
"Don't do anything reckless!" Keito warned me once again as I hop into my car. Smiling to him, I started the car and moved to my destination.
It took me about 3 hours to reach the place and my butt already sore but it worth though since I was greet with beautiful scenery by the lake. I should thanked my lecture for giving me this task. Without wasting my time, I took out my beloved camera and took lots of photo. While doing the my assignment, I didn't realize that I was already moved too far and worst I'm lost.
"Shot! I should be careful earlier!" I cursed in panic. Okay, calmed down Yuto. Things would be worst if you're in panic. I strolled around the place hopefully to find anyone and help me. Taking a wrong move, I slipped and fall down before everything turned black.

"Are you hurt?"
I heard a soft voice talked. Slowly my eyes opened and I heard the sound of flowing water.
"You've awake.." A young girl smiles to me. She took a bowl and handed it to me. "Here,..drink this..you must've be thirsty" She guided me to seat up as I took the bowl from her hands. I groaned as the pain strike me.
"You've hurt your left leg...I saw you laying unconsciously near the river..."
"Where am I...and...who are you?" As I look around the place and back to her. She smile and bowed down her head.
"I'm Ryoko and you're now at Yogo Lake."
I stares the girl that stand in front of me. She's wearing a white kimono and definitely have a pretty face.
"Are you...a human?" I asked her. Wouldn't it be weird for a pretty girl like her to live on this forest alone. There's only one thing that can do that and I'm right. She shrug her head gently.
"A-are you....a ghost?" I should listen to Keito earlier. The girl chuckled and it send me to shivered.
"I'm not a ghost. I'm a guardian of this lake"
Okay..Now I have another issues. "You're not serious, right?" as I cracked a nervous laugh. But she only smiles to me.
"I'm Ryoko the guardian of Yogo Lake."
I was left speechless. She took my camera from the table before hand it to me.
"What's this?" As she looks at the camera on my hand curiously.
"Uh? this? urm..its camera.." I raised my eyebrow while explain it to her. Its kind of weird to explain something that people nowadays already knew it.
"What does it do?" Okay, she started to asked a weird question.
"Well, basically..we took a photo using it.." The girl titled her head as she listen to my words. Looks like she's not a bad guardian though. May be a bit curious. I smile and think of other easy words to explain her.
"Human would use this camera to capture their memories with other people. In short, we use it for our remembrance"
She blinked her eyes few times and smile widely at the end.
"This things is great!"
And so, my life with Ryoko, the guardian of Yogo Lake, started since that day. Living with her, doesn't have any difference like living with human. Everyday, human would always busy with their work and school. As for Ryoko, she would always strolled around the place. Sometimes, she would brought me to play with her other 'friends'. It's kind of weird to say this, but the 'friends' that I'm saying is not a human but other living creature like animals and insect. As for today, she brought to meet her bugs friends. Well, it didn't bother me though since I like bugs.
"This is Kiiroi~! The head of all bugs in this area. He have a loud sound!" As she introduce me to the biggest bugs among the others. I feel weird to smile and bowed my head to the small creature but somehow I like it. The other bugs makes a weird noise.
"Do they hate me?" I asked Ryoko.She smile and shrug her head.
"They like you!" She squealed happily.
You might call me crazy but, the two of us were playing with the bugs. That's the first time of me to saw a pretty girl playing with bugs. It would be great if I can capture this moment but sadly, my camera were broke the other day when I fell down.
"It would be great if my camera is working now." I sighed while looking at the broken things place on the table.
"You want it back?" Ryoko asked me. I smiled and nodded my head but I know its impossible to get it back. The next things that Ryoko said to me totally surprised me.
"I'll fixed it for you."
"Eh? No..its okay, Ryoko." She doesn't even know what camera is, and now she want to fixed it for me.
Ryoko ignore my words and skipped to the things. She put her hands on my camera and with my own eyes I saw her hands resulting a blue light. It continued for a few second before the light suddenly disappear and happily she brought the camera back to me.
"Here!" As she handed me the broken thing earlier and to my surprised its already fixed and it looked better than before.
"T-thanks.." As I eyed the girl in front of me amazed.
As the day passed, I start to grow a feelings towards Ryoko. I'm already aware that I've fall in love with her. But fate wouldn't want us to be together. That night both of gazing up the star together.
"Ne..Ryoko..is it wrong for a human to fall in love with you..?" I shifted my eye to her hoping to hear the answer. She smile but something is wrong with the smile. It's a sad smiles.
"It would be a painful memory for the human." She talked.
I cracked a smile and gaze the night sky again. "Looks like it'll be my painful memories in my life.."
A soft hand touch my face, slowly I titled to stares the girl. She was crying yet in a same time smiling. "I'm sorry for the painful memories.."
"Am I being selfish if I want to know you feelings..?" tears rolled on my face but she wipe it away.
"You're my true love...but we're not meant for each other.." Slowly she wrapped her arms on my neck and buried her face on my shoulder. Fate is cruel but I have to face it. Ryoko and I were not the same.
The next day, Ryoko brought me out from her place. She show me the way to walked out from the forest.
"Your friends would be here soon." She talked in a calmed voice. The smile never leave her face.
"Can I see you again?" As I capture her wrist firmly. She shook her head while smiled.
"The guardian shouldn't be close with human. That's the promise that I've made." Her words stabbed my feelings.
Soon, I heard my name being called and my surrounding start to filled with fogs.
"Fate isn't always cruel, Yuto-kun.One day you'll find your fated person." She utter her last words to me before everything turned black once again.

"Where...am I?" I mumbled.
"Yuto! You've awake! Gosh! I shouldn't let you go that day!" Keito nagging voice filled the room.
"Keito? where..am I?" I asked him once again.
"You're now at hospital! God! Yuto! You've been missing for three days but thank god we finally found you laying unconsciously. I've told you,right! Don't ever do any reckless things! Why on earth you went to that restricted area"
My head become heavy when he start to nagged me. Keito really act like my mother a lot but the difference is, he act more paranoid compare with my mom. The door suddenly being open and someone entered.
"Ano..I'm sorry to say this..but your friend need his rest." The person talked.
"Ah..gomen.." Keito apologized to the person and moved a bit. The next things that I saw cause my heartbeat stop.
There, standing near my bed..is the same person that help me.
"Nakajima-kun, right?" She asked me with her smile again. "You're amazing person. Though you've lost for three day but you only got a small scratched." the girl talked while she's check on my small wounds.
"Wh..who are you?" Finally I got my voice back.
She stop her work and look at me. "I'm Ryoko, a nurse that in charge with you." As she bowed down her head.
"Fate isn't always cruel, Yuto-kun.One day you'll find your fated person."
The last words from Ryoko struck my mind.
"May be fate is not that cruel." As I smiled to her.

- Inspired by the Swan Maiden Legend at Yogo Lake while I was doing my research. But I change it a bit though~ xD
- I don't really read fantasy story so...yeah..it might sound weird~ x)
- there might be a lots of typos~ =.= I still haven't found my glasses yet..T^T
