the mail is weird today

i realize this is probably not the best time to post this question, but otherwise i'll forget and it will bug me. so: today i got a padded envelope in the mail from somewhere in the uk, and i don't recognize the handwriting and the return address is a. crossed out, and b. from an al kennedy in edinburgh, and the only person i know in edinburgh is karenbear and that's not her real name. also, inside are what look weirdly like wristwarmers made out of stockings/nylons/pantyhose - there's a wide band of elastic on each end and another band of elastic in the middle, like two pieces of knee-highs sewn together at the non-elastic ends. they're black.

who are they from, and what are they? i'm especially confused since the little customs form on the back says "jewelry."
