oh my flist it has been so hot here. i'm a human being, not a roast chicken. *gasp* if you too are living with unbearable heat i hope you're staying cool and hydrating.
(how you define "unbearable heat" is totally up to you. :D )
for the summer i can work from home three days a week instead of two but i'll probably keep going in because the ugly building where i work has a/c and my house does not. ugh.
anyway. i hope the americans in the audience had a pleasant fourth, and if you wanted fireworks i hope you got fireworks. my sister and i went to the town fireworks in a different town than last year, and in a lot of ways it was the same - lots of families, little kids, older folks, the occasional dog, a band. but also, food trucks. (we brought more than enough to eat but it's always nice to know you have other options.) there was a family sitting near us - a mom and a bunch of kids, altho i wondered if all the kids were hers, like were some of them hers and some of them her kids' friends - one of the girls had what looked to me like a soap bubble blower shaped like a minecraft sword that she kept blowing bubbles with, until eventually another mom with a tiny girlchild sat right near them and the tiny girlchild was ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTED with the bubbles. so the other girl blew lots of them for her and it was EXCESSIVELY CUTE. and then it was dark and they turned all the lights off and we got fireworks and they were lovely. they're local town fireworks and not, like, the boston fireworks, but they were a good show and i'm glad we went.
my sister's moving in a couple of weeks so friday and saturday we went to the new apartment (on saturday it was to walk through with the landlady who talks about herself A LOT) to measure rooms and mentally place furniture and i guess so i could give my opinion. it's a nice place! bigger than the current place, plus it has central air.
saturday night we saw fly me to the moon, in which scarlett johansson goes down to cape canaveral to market apollo 11 to the american public despite channing tatum. i was expecting romcom and got a little more drama - there was definitely rom and definitely com but also no small amount of serious drama. but i enjoyed it! scarjo and channing tatum didn't have scorching chemistry or anything but i could buy them as people who came to at least enjoy each other's company. and the dresses were really cute.
one of my groups at work is doing a conference in two weeks so work is either all conference all the time, or kind of sitting around enjoying the a/c and stressing slightly about the aforementioned conference. and today i went in a little early (which in retrospect i didn't have to do) because one of my pi's hosted a master class - by which he hosted the woman who taught the master class - and i had to meet the breakfast. there was lunch too but i'm used to doing that.
the season finale of reginald the vampire was tonight and my response was a little "what?" and a little "i knew that was going to happen but only like two minutes before it did happen". kind of cliffhangery but not too bad.
