my sister and i are going to italy (FINALLY) on wednesday and i keep thinking there's something i have to do that i haven't. i spent most of last week consumed with the thought that i had a million things to do before i left and that i was forgetting about half of them. (i didn't have a million things to do. but i spent a couple days metaphorically running around like my hair was on fire anyway.) now i just have to figure out if i want to bring my phone or not. my roommate was surprised i had to think about it but she's surgically attached to hers and the last time she went overseas was to india where she and her entire family needed to be able to find each other and stay in contact in a very foreign country. my sister and i are going on a guided tour and neither of us plans to go off on her own without the other. and i'm not surgically attached to my phone. i do need to make a decision soon tho.

yesterday as is tradition we got mani-pedis (pedi for me, both for her) and went to the outlet mall where neither of us got anything for the trip but did take advantage of the discounts. i got a couple shirts, a bunch of socks, a pair of fish earrings, a pair of disco ball earrings, and an assortment of lindt truffles. the new socks necessitated a culling of the current socks in which i threw out all the ones with holes except for the tacosaurus socks because i just cannot bring myself to pitch the taco dinos. theoretically i can learn to darn but i haven't yet, so. after the outlets we went back to my sister's place to eat tortellini and watch roman holiday which neither of us had seen. my opinion is mostly that i can now say i've seen it. i think old movies just aren't my thing. they don't pop my corn, as it were. audrey hepburn is adorable tho.

wednesday i went to the lego discovery center with tamalinn, friend r, and friend r's hubs. normally you need a kid to get into the discovery center but every so often they open it up at night for adults. there was as you might expect beer in the little food court. :D we rode the ride (you have to shoot at various lego villains - orcs, skeletons, bats, spiders - with a kind of laser gun and at the end if you have a good high score you write it down somewhere and the winner gets a prize) (none of us won altho friend r's hubs made a good showing) and got food (who amongst the americans in the audience had strawberry shortcake ice cream bars when they were a kid? because the discovery center had those so OF COURSE i had to buy one, plus a little pizza) and halfassedly tried to assemble little lego vehicles and admired the build room - i think that's what it's called - where they have big lego models of boston and random city buildings and a medievalish fantasyish neighborhood that reminded me of the ren faire except bigger and with tentacles in the moat and a wizard's castle and flying dragons. the platform that the city buildings were on had little windows underneath so you could look in on a boston t platform (including a trio of busking rats no doubt playing sweet caroline) and a generic city subway station (with a train car pulling in and then back out). the overhead lights faded out, the city lights came on, the overhead lights came on, the city lights faded back out. it was very cool. and then it was 9:30 and they kicked us out. >.< there were a couple of build competitions that we didn't participate in but the employee running them was very enthusiastic about getting people to join. the gift shop had a large and tempting model of the millennium falcon but i don't have several hundred bucks to drop on lego - or anywhere to display it - and anyway the thing i really want is a model of the (late lamented) imperial hotel in japan which i think is long out of production. either that or a robie house.

it was quite fun and kind of made me wish i hadn't let my parents get rid of my childhood lego when they moved to florida.

the other fun thing about the lego discovery center is that the first thing you do is make your own minifig. mine has a little tricorn revolutionary war type hat and a ponytail. tamalinn made a scooby-doo fred (as opposed to a different pop culture fred). they had minitorsos wearing his scarf so why not. right?

i watched the s2 premiere of reginald the vampire and holy cow, what a ridiculous show. but so sweet and so cute and so enjoyably weird. angela looked like she was wearing a wig which was distracting but otherwise i liked it. to be fair i'm inclined to like jacob batalon anyway because of the spiderman movies but he's adorable as reginald and i'm glad he gets to be a leading man.

fun with friends, movies, italy, weekend wrapup, legos, fun with my sister, reginald the vampire
