five buildings that weren't designed by frank lloyd wright
the chrysler building (nyc)
my beloved. it used to have apartments on the upper floors. photographer margaret bourke-white lived in one and time magazine which she worked for at the time had to cosign her lease because building management wouldn't rent to a woman.
palau de la musica catalana (barcelona)
an astonishingly beautiful building with so much gorgeous tile and stained glass.
nakagin capsule tower (tokyo) (demolished)
i don't know if it was ever really practical (the capsules didn't even have kitchenettes) but it looked so neat.
sydney opera house (sydney)
i want to visit sydney to see this building and climb the bridge over the harbor. i mean, look at that roof. just look at it.

going to weather by silas j costello
A nautical ghost story set on the stage of a New England whaleship, spanning three acts.

challenge #12 - personal win!

well, i still haven't killed my roommate. i have a feeling every snowflake from now until i move will be "i didn't commit homicide...." but i have made a, uh, move towards moving. (by which i mean i sent in an application for the inclusionary housing program. which i qualify for because i make a bit over 60% of the average median income for the city where i live and otherwise would not be able to afford a place by myself.)

so there's that. i finally finished the wretched cross stitch of scum and villainy. (yay!) i finished nano altho i ended the story kind of in the middle because i took the scenic route and ran out of november before i ran out of story. oops. i picked a pie at random from my pie cookbook and baked it with no idea what it was going to be like and it came out well. (raisin pie. i wanted to try a water pie but i was taking it to my cousins' house and i didn't want to inflict a weird depression-era pie on them without trying it myself first. whereas we all know what raisins taste like.) one of my pi's at work runs a seminar series and while he does the work of finding speakers i do everything else. successfully. for three and a half years so far. and i joined a gym! and went! and then... did not. but i didn't give up the membership and just need to motivate myself again. and my curling team has won both games we've played so far, holy crap. i count that as a win even tho i don't know how much i contributed to it personally.

in non snowflake news tomorrow at work we're having what one of the admins refers to as crappy christmas - you bring a christmas gift you don't want and exchange it for a christmas gift someone else didn't want. and since i don't celebrate christmas i'm going to bring cookies. right now i'm waiting for the butter to soften and the egg yolks to thaw (they were in the freezer and why didn't i put them in the fridge last night) and if i end up baking cookies at 10:30 at night i guess i'll be baking cookies at 10:30 at night. oy. this is my own fault.

and did i mention my curling team won on sunday? we did. :D it was a close game, too.

on saturday i had a dentist appointment and aside from a full raft of x-rays it was fine. no cavities. :D it was so cold out i went home and stayed there until sunday afternoon when i went to the grocery store. and it was still cold!

[1] the front entrance and the lobby were saved and installed at meiji mura which is an outdoor architectural museum near nagoya.

[2] eddie the dog belonged to jim berger, who was the son of robert berger, who commissioned a house from wright. jim felt bad that eddie had to be outside in the cold and so asked wright to design a doghouse, which a year later he did. it leaked. try to contain your shock.
