first, if there are any moms in the audience, happy mother's day. :D
second, i shut my finger in the door yesterday on the way out of the house to go to the dentist. >.< i just bruised it but OW. (i was in and out of the dentist's office in twenty-five minutes which has to be some kind of record.) after the dentist i went to target and got a shower curtain and some plates for a work thing tomorrow and then i came home and took a nap because i guess those two trips were exhausting. *shrug* last night i met my sister for dinner (sushi) (they had salmon skin rolls <3 ) and are you there god? it's me, margaret which is adorable and charming and just a really sweet, nostalgic movie. margaret is super cute and her parents are super cute and her friends are super cute and their sixth grade teacher is super cute and margaret's grandma is very much a jewish new york grandmother and - surprise - super cute. for a movie about a preteen girl dealing with puberty and friendship and religion (margaret's mom is christian and her dad is jewish and she was raised in no particular faith) and occasionally boys it was pretty low stakes. it's an innocent kind of movie - i think it's an innocent kind of book - and i really enjoyed it. my only issue is that it's set in 1970/71 and everyone's wearing patterns and none of them match.
(we only saw two trailers - asteroid city and oppenheimer both of which i want to see.)
today my sister and i had mother's day brunch without mom, as she is in another state, and then we walked around and i picked up like six weeks' worth of comics and my sister got a folding shelf thing for her closet and i sat outside for like an hour because it was SO NICE OUT. SO, SO NICE.
the week included a lot of work at work and also writing group, one of the submissions for which was part of a ya novel one of the guys is working on. i think he's a bit insecure about it because he mostly wanted cheerleading which we provided along with a lot of "what the hell is going on" kinds of questions. (it's the sequel to another novel he's already written and which i've read none of, so a lot of the worldbuilding and introduction of the main character has already been done except i missed all of it.) and it's a good thing he wasn't ready for actual critique, because "i am really not the target audience for this" is not legit critique. but i'm still generally enjoying writing group even if i'm not doing any actual writing.
two guys set sail around france. their rudder breaks. they put out a distress call. they're rescued by
a replica of a ship that sank in 1745 (it's the largest ocean going wooden ship in the world). in the words of one of the rescued sailors, "we wondered if we were dreaming. what time period was it?"
there's now a stretch of highway in minnesota named after prince. sadly the tarmac is not purple.
