if you live in the blast furnace currently known as the uk - or various other parts of western europe that happen to be on fire, jesus - i hope you're staying cool and hydrated (and unburnt!) and are taking care of yourselves. i have all the sympathy. that kind of heat is awful when you're used to it, so i can't imagine how much worse it is when you're not.
it's hot here but yesterday it was humid, with that very special pressure that comes from mother nature going "i'm going to rain, see all the cloud cover, can't you feel the pressure, i promise i'm going to rain" for the entire day, but not actually raining. >.< i get weather headaches in weather like that, and for some reason that translated into every time i stood up - because i work from home on mondays - i got a headache. >.< but not when i was sitting down. that was worse than however hot it was - i got the fan from my room and turned it on my feet which turned out to be really nice. ugh, weather. it was beautiful today at least, just... warm. and i was on campus so i got to take advantage of the central air.
on sunday to beat the heat i went to see everything everywhere all at once and then took myself out for sushi. watching michelle yeoh kick ass and take names is always a good time, but i also really enjoyed watching her play a normal person. and ke huy quan! who i haven't seen in anything since the goonies and indiana jones and the temple of doom (unfortunately the worst of the indiana jones movies). he was wonderful. and james hong, who will always be the duck dad from kung fu panda. it's a lot of things rolled into one occasionally convoluted occasionally VERY SURREAL movie, and even tho it took me a while to figure out what was going on and why, overall i liked it.
in one of michelle yeoh's character's other lives - in which she says no to ke huy quan when he proposes - she becomes a kung fu champion and movie star, so when they show that timeline they have some actual footage of actual michelle on actual red carpets. which was neat.
saturday friend r had a birthday party for her fiance in a park not far from my house, which was fun and involved kind of a lot of food. and then my sister came down from a work bbq (her boss hosted, so it wasn't like mandated work fun but more work adjacent) and we went to artbeat so she could buy an earring holder from
this ceramicist and i failed in my attempt to buy little paper house kits because
the woman who made them doesn't make them any more! but i think she was really touched when i said i bought three house kits at three successive artbeats and i was looking forward to buying a fourth, and i was sad that she stopped making them. i think they just weren't selling enough. sigh. artbeat seemed smaller than it was in the before times, but i was still glad to be there. my sister and i had an early dinner and sat outside.
this morning on the way to the t i met two very friendly dogs, a chihuahua-pug mix (SO ROUND AND SO EXCITED TO MEET PEOPLE) and an irish setter (SO ELEGANT AND LIKEWISE SO EXCITED). always a good way to start your day.
what do you call a chihuahua-pug mix? (besides SO FUCKING CUTE.) a chug?
