look, books!

What I just finished reading:
the provincials, mostly. by which i mean i read through the first epilogue, in which the author goes to the atlanta summer olympics with his son and brother in honor of his dad who was a huge olympics fan, but i gave up before the second epilogue, which is basically "southern jews in the twenty-first century" because let's be honest, i didn't read this book for its take on contemporary southern jewry. the historical stuff was neat, tho. i learned some shit.

What I am reading now:
the song of achilles by madeline miller, which my sister of all people recommended. i wouldn't have guessed she'd be interested in explicitly queer retellings of ancient greek myths, but apparently she is! i'm amazed how much of the story of the trojan war i don't remember. >.< i did remember that achilles dragged hector behind his chariot all around the plains of troy after killing him, but otherwise, lots of details i'd completely forgotten. which is totally fine! it's like reading the story for the first time. :D i'm very much enjoying it - especially the inevitability of destiny because people just can't help being who they are - altho i'm at the point where it's just unrelenting tragedy all the way down. so i'm really feeling some feels.

What I'm going to read next:
the lost girls of paris, by pam jenoff, also recced - and loaned - by my sister. i'm expecting some tragedy here too, because ww2, but hopefully not epic greek levels of same.

forgot to mention last post that the pepper plant on the back porch has produced a harvey dent pepper:

soon it will be ready to eat! along with more tiny tomatoes. i love the tiny tomatoes.

still don't mind going into work three days a week, even tho i still don't like the building i work in. i got an actual office tho - did i mention this? - a space i don't have to share with students - the admin who had it before me left behind A LOT OF SHIT (so many office supplies, seriously, and so much paper to sort) that i still have to go through, and i have a window in the room i'm in now which i'll lose, so it's taking me longer than it probably should to actually move. but i'll have my own office with a door that locks for the first time EVER. which is pretty exciting.
