my sister came over yesterday to help me pack my shit, so my dining room is almost all in boxes! today i took some stuff to goodwill and went to the grocery store and packed up most of the dining room that we didn't get to yesterday, and while there's still some random stuff to pack (including a big bowl i took from my parents' house and a mask i got in venice - it's a plague doctor mask with a plague doctor painted on it, except the paint is flaking off! and it's just an awkward shape anyway) it's overall mostly done. which, yay. during the week i made some floor plans and shared them with
farwing so we have an idea where the furniture will go. which, also, yay. that kind of thing is really fun for me, and it's kind of soothing to know where everything will fit. i found a bunch of dvds i forgot i owned and a large number of dvds that other people burned for me, some of which were not even remotely familiar. like, i never actually watched them. >.< i didn't keep most of them, altho i feel kind of bad about the ones i didn't watch. i also found a lot of mix cds that people sent me. i downloaded all those to itunes, tho. it was kind of fun unearthing that stuff. sometimes a little nostalgia is a good thing.
cds and dvds are all packed, by the way. also, uh, some vhs tapes. don't judge.
i still despair at how much i have left to do, tho. i'm going to pack another box after i post.
yesterday after we were done packing i drove my sister by the new place, so she could see it and form an opinion of the neighborhood (positive), and then we got dinner at whole foods and came back to my house and watched the first couple episodes of the halston miniseries on netflix, which i liked overall but which also skimmed some events that could've been expanded. i always think of him as a very 70s designer and had no idea he got his start designing hats. like, jackie kennedy's pillbox hat that she wore for jfk's inauguration was the first thing that made halston famous. and then women stopped wearing hats and he turned to couture. my sister recommended an actual documentary about the guy which i want to watch now. i mean, how much of the netflix show is true and how much dramatized for tv? like, did his phone really stop working because there was so much coke in it?
also yesterday i went to the dentist (just a cleaning - everything looks good) and got a haircut, so it was a very full day. today was less so, but still reasonably productive.
oh, and i finally did my taxes. why do things early when you can wait until almost the last minute?
perseverance is no longer the only rover on mars.
china landed one too. this is very exciting. i mean, it's looking for subterranean ice. potential oceans on mars! how is that not cool?
