first, happy birthday to
donutsweeper! fellow fangirl (altho not of fandoms i follow) and crocheter of super cute creatures, plus shawls. here's to birthday doughnuts. :D
dancing boys: *bunny hop*
i saw two - count 'em - bunnies yesterday, so i may or may not have bunnies on the brain.
second, wednesday reading meme!
What I just finished reading:
storm of locusts, which was very similar to trail of lightning in feel (altho not so much in plot). some of the characters came back, which was fun, and i still wasn't enamored of the love story, and i wish there was a pronuciation guide for the native american names and the occasional word, but overall i enjoyed it. the plot is very much "thing happens, then thing happens, then thing happens", like the characters just go from set piece to set piece, but they're interesting set pieces and i really like that it pulls from native american mythologies.
also giant days vols 7 and 8, which are just as cute as they ever were.
What I am reading now:
the provincials: a personal history of jews in the south, by eli n evans, whose dad was apparently mayor of durham, nc, for i think six terms. it's a mix of the author's family history and an overall history of southern jews and y'know, for all that i lived in tennessee for eleven years (and knew a lot of southern hebs, plus the occasional yankee transplant) (my friend diane's dad was a new york expat, and my parents were, well, fellow yanks) i don't actually know any of that history. it's really interesting so far, altho it was written in 1973 (i have i think the twenty-fifth anniversary reprint) so eli evans constantly refers to black folks as "negroes" and it keeps throwing me off.
What I'm going to read next:
not a clue.
in other news, i discovered a bag of stuff to shred in the back of my coat closet, and at the top of the closet i found... an iron. still in the box. which makes me wonder if i ever even used it. should i keep it? if nothing else it will come in handy the next time i need to iron a cross stitch.
my packing is going very slowly, tho. last night me and
farwing went over to the new apartment to measure all the rooms and get dust on ourselves, and i discovered just how shallow my bedroom closet is. (very. just deep enough for a regular hanger.) pantry's still a good size, kitchen cabinets are still old and cheap. i think all my shit will fit, tho, assuming i can put a bunch of plastic tubs in the basement. i wake up every morning and despair at how much i still have to do. basically i'm going to be low-level anxious about this until i actually move. this does not fill me with joy.
if you live in romania,
you can get your covid vax at dracula's castle. i mean, why not?
