i hope my fellow americans had a relaxing labor day (happy labor day! from those swell folks who brought you the weekend :D ) and that the weather was good for enjoying it. my sister and i went to the
decordova museum, because most of it is outdoors and you can bring food. so we picnicked and saw art and it was a lovely way to spend the day. sunday i went for a long walk with friends - also a lovely way to spend the day - and saturday i got out of the house later than planned and took a shorter long walk by myself. it's not exactly cooler and the trees aren't turning yet, but it still feels like fall. at this point it's totally psychological but i'll take it.
i called my parents earlier to ask about high holy day services - my sister and i usually go to their former temple, because they still pay some level of dues which entitles them to high holy day tickets, but this year everything is online and we don't know what's going on - and my mom said they were about to watch broadchurch, in a "i can't talk right now" kind of voice, so i said i'd call back later. i know that feel, as they say. i used to just not answer the phone if something i was invested in was on.
the other thing i did over the long weekend was finish trust (aka "the one in which luca marinelli plays a casually violent psycho and is inexplicably hot despite the porno 'stache and ugly 70s clothes, and also there's brendan fraser"), watch non essere cattivo (don't be bad) (aka "the one in which luca marinelli plays a junkie and low-level criminal with an unattractive undercut and some unfortunate mid-90s clothes") (i kept waiting for something bad to happen and was thus unsurprised but still sad when it did), watch god's own country (aka "the one i wanted to see because the gif set on tumblr was so cute and intriguing, and then
@winged said it had a happy ending") (it did), watch lo chiamavano jeeg robot (they call me jeeg) (aka "the one in which luca marinelli is UN. HINGED. and wow that sequined jacket is awful") (you may be sensing a trend) (i legitimately enjoyed this despite luca's character's unfortunate taste in clothes), and smacked into the problem with fixating on an italian actor - 99.44% of his previous work is in a language i don't speak. i don't just need to find the movies. i need them with subtitles. >.< non essere cattivo and jeeg robot are on amazon prime, but the other three/four i want to see? not so much. (well, ricordi? is, but you have to rent it. and i'm using my parents' prime account because mom said i could, and i feel weird about randomly renting movies on someone else's dime. altho i had to rent god's own country too.)
i feel like it's 2014 again and catws is out and i can't get over sebastian stan's fucking face. and terrible winter soldier hair. this is the hill i will die on and i make no apologies. on the one hand, i've been through this shit before and it's familiar, but on the other, it's so hard to concentrate on anything else. >.<
like, on sunday i swear i saw a guy at the grocery store who looked like a younger luca - he had the profile - and for about ten seconds i legitimately thought i was losing my mind. maybe if i talk about it i'll get over it faster. lucky you. :D
do you love city maps? specifically historical city maps?
how about a timeline of same? it starts with a map of tenochtitlán from 1524 and goes up to gangland chicago as of 1927. there's even one of boston. :D (also, weirdly enough, lowell and aspen, way before it was absurdly expensive and full of skiers.)
scan and deliver - i guess this is what happens when the venn diagram of "librarians" and "adam ant fans" is a circle.
remember the teapot disguised as a bunch of jewish ritual objects?
it was actually made by a contemporary artist named yossi swed. so it's not that old, but is still immensely cool.
