i think mother nature is getting me (ok, and other bostonians) back for appreciating the nice chill weather yesterday, because it was somewhere in the vicinity of 94º today. i left the house for approximately ten seconds and that was only to stick my head out the front door to get my mail. what the actual and entire fuck, mother nature. at least it's not also ridiculously humid? but i have a heat headache and i am not thrilled about that, especially since i've been trying very hard to stay hydrated and out of the sun.
i ended up enjoying the old guard, violence and all. i freely admit a lot of that is because of nicky and joe. (so cute! so clearly still in love!) (that wasn't a spoiler i promise.) i don't know if i buy charlize theron as greek, but whatever, i don't know any greeks so she might be physically believable as one. if found family is your jam and you don't mind a non-trivial number of people getting shot, and you have netflix, try it. altho it made me want baklava, which was... inconvenient.
thanks to recs from simon-who-isn't-on-lj and also
dear-tiger, i have now started watching babylon berlin and there's a lot going on in the first two episodes! tiger said the music was good and she isn't wrong. i have no idea how historically accurate it is (i really only know about the roaring 20s in the us) which mostly means i'm not going "that's WRONG" or "yeah, that checks out", and can just sit back and enjoy. there was even a car with suicide doors for me to coo over. (look, it's a thing. i like a good suicide door.)

day 18: a song from the year you were born - neil diamond, sweet caroline
so according to the comments on youtube, this was right after the boston marathon bombing, and neil flew out to boston on his own dime to sing at fenway. i have no idea how or why sweet caroline became such a song for red sox fans, but every time i hear it now i have to yell "so good! so good!" in my head.
