it felt like spring today and that was weird

what happened tuesday (last week) was that one of my department heads is retiring next month. O.O surprise? and then on wednesday the power went out at work! all over the block! you could tell everything was down (altho we had wifi) because everyone was standing around chatting. some guy was on his way to a meeting and got stuck in the elevator. oops. all the elevators were recalled to the first floor, so he was freed. he just never made the meeting. the power wasn't out as long as the electric company said, and once the lights came back on, we went back to work. the hvac seemed MUCH LOUDER, tho.

today i had an interview! same u, different department. i interviewed with the guy i'd be supporting (he's faculty, i think, and a researcher) and his assistant, and while i liked the assistant i couldn't get much of a read on the researcher. he asked if i wanted coffee! which never happens! i said no thank you, i'm not actually a coffee drinker. he isn't either. :D it was weirdly hospitable in a way i'm not used to at job interviews. i don't know how it went, but i don't think i said anything too stupid. fingers crossed, i guess.

my manager sent out a "say goodbye to cindy" kind of email, and i got some "i'm so orry you're leaving!" responses. one of the techie guys told me he was sad i was leaving. it's gratifying to know people will miss you, but at the same time, it's kind of weird when someone says "i hope you're going on to bigger and better things" and you currently don't have any things because you're not going by choice. it gives me a chance to tell people i liked working with them, tho. which i did! libraries people are fun.

my curling team lost last night altho just by one. it was a good game and i played better than i had the week before, in which i was a DISASTER. just... ugh.

so the criminal minds series finale was wednesday and i'm not sure how i feel about it. it was kind of anti-climactic? i guess? the season just started last month, so it felt very sudden as a series finale. it was a two-parter and i actually recognized the opening quote for the first half! fifteen seasons and i almost never recognize the quote. (it was from josephine hart's damage - "damaged people are dangerous. they know they can survive.") i've also seen what i guess is the vikings season finale, and this might be my last season. it hasn't been the same since they killed athelstan and i really don't care about ivar.

there's a little free library in philadelphia that's full of yarn instead of books. i think that's the cutest thing. and a great thing to do with your extra yarn!

for those americans in the audience who bake and who really liked the great british baking show, you can audition for the great american baking show.
