so it's been a week. on monday i lost my job, by which i mean my position was eliminated. i guess the firm had a bad year, because they eliminated a lot of positions, including the me in the westborough office (and one of the other admins there), both marketing people in boston, and one of the tax partners. O.O and another partner, i think in advisory or forensics. wtf. it was a firm-wide thing and apparently kind of a bloodbath. i didn't tell anyone in tax until tuesday - i sent a group email - and got a lot of "wtf??" responses, and some "i had no idea!" and some "wow, that sucks, we'll miss you" and a couple "i'd be happy to provide a reference". i emailed one of the senior associates in new york, because i helped the schedulers with people's hours and this senior and i got to be friends, and she called me! and had the same kind of "wtf??" reaction other people did. it's kind of gratifying to know that people will miss you and that they think the firm was dumb to let you go, altho the end result is still the same. i mean, i still lost my job.
i got the news from the head of hr and the office managing partner, who looked like she'd either been crying or was trying not to. i don't think because of me personally - telling people you have to let them go has to be one of the harder parts of her job, and i think she's a decent person and was upset that she had to. the office manager kind of apologized - "i'm so sorry, i didn't have anything to do with it" - in the "if i'd made the decision i'd have made a different one" kind of way, rather than the "i'm not responsible" kind of way. i told her i didn't blame her. if there's anyone to blame it's probably the head office.
it wasn't totally a surprise - the me from westborough was let go in the morning and called to tell me - but you can know you're going to be fired and still be surprised when it happens. i got paid through yesterday and i have health insurance through the rest of the month (and let me just say i'm glad i just went to the dentist) and in a couple weeks i'll get my severance, and part of the "separation package" is three months with a job placement type agency, so i'm not without resources. i've had better mondays, tho.
tuesday my sister and i saw the muppet movie which is as cute as it ever was. i remembered all the songs but not all of all the songs, if that makes sense. there were a lot of adults in the audience but at least one small child, which i know because he sat in our row and had things to say every so often.
wednesday
tamalinn and i went to the grocery store for mangos - she had an allergy test today and because she's allergic to the things someone else had to cut them up, and because i'm not allergic that someone was me - we're standing in the produce section and all the lights went out. O.O all over the store. O.O some of the employees cheered. and then some of the lights came back on and we could buy the mangos and go. weird, tho. there wasn't even any weather.
yesterday i got my boobs squished (since i only have a month of health insurance left) and failed to pay my rent. >.< and today i watched a lot of x-files reruns, applied for an actual job, and drove my rent over.
i've been sitting on my ass a lot. i brought my laptop home (so i could get stuff off it) but didn't have to go back to the office, so i checked my email a couple times to, you know, let people know i wasn't working there any more, and to make sure there wasn't anything i needed to deal with.
and izombie ended!
for a show that could be pretty damn dark, it ended on such a happily ever after. there were too many fakeouts at the end - peyton's dead! no, blaine turned her, she's a zombie now! major's human! major's dead! no, ravi faked him out with max rager in the syringe, he's actually ok! liv's been blown to bits! no, wait, somehow she managed to escape the explosion and collapsing building and met up with major and the remaining kids! and blaine and don-e ended up in the bottom of a well! which wasn't a fakeout, surprise. i kind of liked don-e and kind of hoped he'd make it out ok, but he was always at least blaine's accomplice, so he probably deserves to be stuck in the bottom of a well with him. everyone got what they deserved, good and bad. and ravi is still the cutest.
not sure how i feel about killjoys tonight - a lot of it felt off - but i liked dutch's hair again. these things are important.
the atlas of moons - all the major moons in the solar system, with their major features and various historical and scientific tidbits. look, it's space. i must share. :D
