sometimes i do the dumb thing

i did a profoundly boneheaded thing at work, and today when i confessed (sort of) to the partner who asked me to do it TWO AND A HALF MONTHS AGO, she kind of laughed it off and didn't seem super concerned. i still expect to get a talking-to, because seriously, it was stupid and i have no excuse, but the repercussions might not be as bad as i think. we'll see.

yesterday i was supposed to meet gnomi for lunch at 12:15, and at 12:05 my supervisor (which is kind of how i think of her even tho i'm not sure that's really what she is) comes by and asks me to set up a video conference, which first involved calling her equivalent in the new york office to ask how they did it. there's a form you have to fill out to set one up, and yesterday i learned that you can't request a vc set-up the same day it's supposed to happen. >.< this ultimately involved two more phone calls, an email, several texts to gnomi, and me being an hour late for lunch. AN HOUR. gnomi was very understanding but i was really annoyed. the rest of the day was kind of nuts, and not just because setting up the vc set me back an hour on all the other stuff i had to do. (it was the 15th and thus a deadline. and i took my laptop home for the last few e-filed returns, and couldn't connect to the network because i was using the wrong password. >.< which i realized after i'd been talking to a help desk guy for like ten minutes.) basically it was A Day.

and monday, after me finally booking the georgia-india-georgia flight i'd spent three days trying to sort out with the managing partner who's going on the trip - he asked how much it was, i told him (with "it's because you're flying out of savannah"), and he said "that's too much" and seemed to want me to cancel it. >.< i did not tell him that the flight i booked was his idea, and did he never look at how much it was? i also did not say i was done trying to figure out the quickest and cheapest way to get him from point a to point b and back again, because there is no quick and cheap way. altho! so far he hasn't asked me to change it. and to be fair it is a lot of money. oy, tho.

last night there was a celebratory dinner at a steakhouse for a partner who just retired, and someone brought the leftover desserts to the office. (little squares of cheesecake, chocolate cake, and coconut cake, plus cookies.) they randomly appeared on one of the file cabinets this morning. so of course i ate some, because they were there and one of the perks of adulthood is being able to eat cake for breakfast. :D

well that was a lot about work. :| this is what happens when you never post. probably the only other things of note are that i met tamalinn and one of her friends for brunch on saturday (i had french toast with grilled bananas and they were DELICIOUS) and then got rained on, and on sunday i went clothes shopping. O.O which i hate doing. i unexpectedly acquired sandals and cute red flats, and more importantly a dress for work and a super cute t-shirt with lemons on it. both on sale! it was very exciting. i mean, lemons. :D amd i got a GIANT GRAPEFRUIT at the grocery store, which became salad on monday. it's not grapefruit season and it wasn't the best grapefruit but i couldn't resist. i mean, it was GIANT.

you can listen to florence nightingale. it's a very short, scratchy recording, but it means you can hear someone speaking who was born in 1820, and that's pretty cool.

last week a bunch of goats and sheep escaped from a livestock auction house, and there's a theory that a goat who escape a year ago helped them. it came back to rescue its brethren! well, goats are social creatures....

fun with friends, goats, sometimes i'm an idiot, new job second floor, historical record, weekend wrapup, cool shit
