my sister and i saw tag last night and it was kinda silly, kinda fun, and kinda stupid. and intermittently funny. i think jeremy renner's too intense for comedy, but jon hamm was good. we got the preview for mission impossible (again), but also ant man and the wasp (paul rudd is almost fifty! what the hell), something dumb looking with mila kunis and kate mckinnon (like them both but no), crazy rich asians (my sister says the book is good), a horror movie called nun (HARD PASS), and bad times at the el royale, which i freely admit i only want to see because a. i love me some jeff bridges, and b. chris hemsworth looks like a villain, and how often does he get to play a villain?
yesterday before the movie my cousin-adjacent [1] had an open house graduation party (her oldest just graduated from high school), which involved a lot of people, a decent assortment of folks i'm actually related to, and A LOT of food. (cousin-adjacent is a nice jewish girl and her husband is a nice italian boy. so, you know, they have enough food for an army. or a backyard full of teenagers. :D ) they had a tent in case it rained, but the weather was good so people mostly used the tent for shade. all the food was inside anyway, and it was gooood. bbq, mac & cheese, this fantastic corn-and-black-bean salad with avocado. yum.
friday night my sister and i met a cousin from the other side of the family, plus her hubs, plus her sister our other cousin, for dinner in the north end (historically italian part of boston). service was SO. SLOW. but the food was good. there's a twenty-four-hour bakery in the north end so of course we had to go there for dessert. eight or ten different flavors of cannoli, yum. it was kind of a cousiny weekend. i like this cousin, but her husband cannot stand to not be the center of attention. i'm talking to her sister and he keeps interrupting to show us pics of the dog. like, yes, she's a very cute dog, but if you want to be part of the conversation, dude, be part of the conversation that's already ongoing. don't try to make it all about you.
the internet went out at work on thursday, and the email went down, so there wasn't a lot people could do. tax people get very chatty with each other when they're blocked from using a lot of stuff. i was just really frustrated that i couldn't do anything besides complain about how i couldn't do anything.
today i went grocery shopping with
tamalinn and did laundry and finished the first edit pass on my bigbang, yay! so far i've cut 3500 words but i still need another place to introduce the ghost peppers, by which i mean ghosts of peppers. i post in a little over a week and i plan to be ready and not stressed about it. also yay. :D
[1] how do you refer to someone who technically isn't your cousin but who's been absorbed into the undifferentiated mass of cousins? she's my cousin's wife's sister, which makes her not related to me at all, but thanks to the fact that her fam and her sister's fam (ie my cousin's four kids) are all close, and my parents used to invite EVERYONE to their hanukah party, they've all kind of become cousins without actually being related. i guess it's like when my sister and i were wee and had aunt so-and-so and uncle so-and-so, who were close family friends but not technically family.
