What I just finished reading:
the news of the world, which i thoroughly enjoyed even tho the lack of quotation marks was a little disconcerting. it had a very strong sense of time and place, and i'm just fascinated by indian captives in general.
What I am reading now:
murder on the leviathan by boris akunin, which i found on the sidewalk in brooklyn. (seriously.) it's very, uh, mannered? stiff? in terms of narrative style, and there's A LOT of exposition so far but very little dialogue, and i don't normally read murder mysteries. and of the three female characters we've met so far, two are plain/unattractive and boring (one is summarily dismissed by the pov character), and the other can only talk about her pregnancy. they seem kind of stereotypical. but it's set in 1878 (give or take) and starts in paris before moving to a schmancy ocean liner on its way to india, and i can get into that. we'll see how far i get, tho.
What I'm going to read next:
i'm kinda feeling it for rereading the last unicorn, because i read it so long ago i don't remember it.
there's curling in tampa. (florida, for the non-americans in the audience.) i love that. i mean, it's florida! the club's founder is canadian, which might be why there's curling in central florida.
in other news, i feel like all i did at work today was send emails. so. many. emails. one of the random tasks that's now mine is to send delinquent time emails, to remind people to submit their hours. usually i do it on monday for the previous week, but today i got to ask everyone to make sure all their hours are in for january. we gotta know what we can bill clients, you know. there are seven offices in the region, and the tax practice in just the manhattan office is probably a hundred people. (boston is about forty.) it took me hours and i'm not kidding. at least i won't have to do it for another month.
in other other news, i signed up for
spn-j2-bigbang (yay) because i always sign up for bigbang, i had a fic idea (yay), i had a backup fic idea (yay), and... i'm not motivated to write either one of them. >.< i started the backup idea, had a crazy third idea today (i had to think about something while i was sending all those emails), and threw it out for involving research. but the fact is, i have an idea and while i think it's a cute idea i don't know if it's 20k of idea or if it's even different enough from other things i've written to even matter. i'm feeling very meh, is what i'm saying. mediocre, self.
to cheer me and you up after that, have a twitter thread of
sexy villains. i would argue the presence of the winter soldier, because he's not a villain, and ditto boyd crowder, so we'll just say you get lots of gifs of sexy antagonists and leave it at that.
