florida was warm but i missed my own bed

i'm home from the topics, if by "tropics" you mean "florida". it wasn't that tropical, but at least it wasn't freezing. i spent a lot of time sitting around my parents' house reading, and honestly, if i wanted to sit around the house and read i could've stayed home. but my mom had an all-day bridge thing monday and tuesday (she's the treasurer of the bridge club/group/whateveritis, which means she has to be at the games to take the money, and it also means that she has to count the money, and as i helped her do that two nights in a row, i can tell you that it is a pain in the ass and takes forever even when there are two of you), and she and my dad had a class wednesday morning and a class thursday morning and there was at least one afternoon where dad had a class but thankfully they had nothing scheduled friday morning, and my sister was sick! like, she wanted to go to urgent care on monday, so dad and i took her while mom was dealing with bridge players. but she felt like shit for most of the week and just didn't have any energy to go anywhere or do anything, so there were a number of reasons why i ended up sitting around a lot and reading. at least one of my books was good.

i took a couple of walks around the neighborhood and we saw a stage adaptation of shakespeare in love which was adorable and sweet (and had a bit with a dog) and i got a pedicure (because it's winter and no one is going to see my feet i wanted a ridiculous color, so now my toes are a vaguely sparkly bright lime green, which means they match my car) and once my sister felt up to leaving the house we went to the beach and had fried fish sandwiches for lunch.

siesta key beach. the sand is so soft and fine it's like flour.

that sky was one of my favorite things about the week.

some lovely creepy fog as seen from the bridge between long boat key and bradenton beach.

i ate a lot of fish and did eventually get to stand on a beach, but i seriously feel like i wasted half the week. my sister and i are going back for passover and hopefully no one will get sick and my parents won't have a bunch of things to do besides spend time with their kids.

we got home saturday and ALL THE SNOW HAD MELTED. MY CAR WAS FREE. it was actually a little weird. today it snowed a little while i was waiting for the bus - i waited twenty minutes but i was waiting in snizzle*, so it was ok - but it didn't stick. i had an unsurprisingly large number of emails in my inbox when i got to work, which i expected, and the pile of paper i put on my desk before i left was still there, which i didn't totally expect. i was busy. i'll be busy tomorrow. i'm ok with that.

penguins + the imperial march from star wars.

so what are y'all up to? what did i miss?

*snow drizzle. :D

new job second floor, penguins, fun with the fam, florida
