dancing boys: *offer trays of cakey and yeasty goodness*

pretend they're dancing with them. :D

now that bigbang reveals have been, er, revealed, i can share my summary!

One day Jensen's daughter finds a shoebox in the back of a closet, a box full of photos and other mementos from his wild New York punk days, before she was born. She wants to know about those days, and especially about the tall skinny boy who appears in so many pictures. That takes Jensen back to the summer of 1979 and the months he spent hanging out with his friends, seeing bands at CBGB, waiting for his senior year of art school, and getting involved with the tall skinny boy, a seventeen-year-old named Jared. He and Jared lived in an East Village apartment with a bathtub in the kitchen, until Jared got famous and left. The photos in the shoebox represent Jensen's life in New York - years of experimental hair, thrifted clothes, make outs, breakups, art, and music, the punk backdrop to his time in the city - leading to a return visit as an adult and a reconnection with the now-grown-up boy he loved.

i submitted the first eleven pages to my writing group, and discovered that one of the women in the group grew up on the lower east side, and more importantly, she'll vet my fic for historical and geographical accuracy. \o/ we had a very lively discussion that had less to do with the fic and more to do with the most random nostalgia for new york in the 80s.

i have also been in touch with my lovely artist! who asked me if i could send her a cast list. >.< because if there weren't a bunch of non-cw actors in the fic it wouldn't be mine.

at work today we had a tea and cookies break at three, and that was really nice. we should always have a tea break in the afternoon.

because i've now shared my bigbang summary, i can share this article about six british punks and what they did after their punk days had passed.

an interesting post about deciphering other people's handwriting.

a guy made a captain america shield that comes back to him when he throws it. electromagnets!

if steve rogers was a real person, the army might owe him a lot of back pay.

the holidays that sad fictional characters deserve. steve and bucky go to norway, sun from sense8 goes to mexico, harry, ron, and hermione go to brooklyn. stephen black (from jonathan strange and mr norrell) goes to greece, and his is the saddest.

a cameo casting spoiler for the next star wars movie. i hyperventilated just the tiniest bit.

seattle has rain-activated tentacular designs on some of the sidewalks by some of the bus stops. sea creatures in a rainy oceanside city make total sense.

there's a frank lloyd wright house in michigan that's actually almost affordable! he did draw up plans for affordable houses - he called them usonian houses - altho very few of them were ever built.

if you haven't seen it yet (i think it went around twitter), time magazine put up a nifty tool that tells you what you'd be named if you were born in 2015, 2014, or each decade back to the 1890s, based on the popularity of your name in the year you were actually born. i'd be bella in 2015. in the 1890s i would've been eula, which i actually like.

if i'd been a boy, my mom would've named me andrew, which means that, according to this thing, if i was born in 2014 i'd be... sebastian. :D and just as big a dork.

the hooble hubble telescope caught a glimpse of the inside of a comet. space cameras are the best.

super cute cacw fanart. vaguely spoilery for the movie, natch.

frank lloyd wright, star wars, writing group, punks, tentacles, bigbang 2016, cool shit, outer space, crafty fen, captain america, tea, historical nifty, psa
