What I just finished reading:
the nameless city vol 1, which i highly recommend especially if you have kids in your life who like graphic novels. one of my favorite things is the random people in the background - city residents, palace guards, kids, whoever. it makes the city feel very lived in.
What I am reading now:
damnificados, by jj amaworo wilson, which is about what happens when six hundred people take over an abandoned apartment tower in an unnamed latin american-ish city. it's a little magical realist and a little utopian and a little dystopian and so far i'm liking it.
What I'm going to read next:
i think i said louise erdrich's tracks last time, but i have to get it out of the back of my car first.
today was administrative professionals day, so work had lunch for the admins (by which i mean me :D ). they ordered from an italian place and i had to get a salad instead because pasta is not kosher for passover. neither are brownies. i made such an internal sadface. we also got flowers - they're very pretty - and chocolate (which i can't eat because, again, passover) (also corn syrup) and a gift card. and one of the tax associates stopped by my desk to compliment the flowers and thank me for all my hard work. and i showed one of the interns how to process tax returns. and it's humpday.
and iron age humans
might have enjoyed alpine cheese! iron age cheese! in switzerland, natch.
leah chase - new orleans restauranteur, provider of no doubt delicious meals for every civil rights activist who passed through new orleans in the 60s,
winner of the james beard lifetime achievement award, and
inspiration for tiana in the princess and the frog. general badass, basically.
"lost" medieval music performed for the first time in about a thousand years. medieval music notation was a lot different from what we use now, so deciphering thousand-year-old music is a feat. plus they were missing a page. which they found! so now you too can listen to songs that are a millennium old.
the bbc and netflix are remaking watership down as a four-part miniseries. it's got james macavoy and nicholas hoult witness! and john boyega, and i saw the first movie so long ago i barely remember it, so i am right there for the miniseries. all the world will be your enemy, prince with a thousand enemies, and when they catch you, they will kill you. but first they must catch you. i'm sure i'll be traumatized. i don't care.
