let us pretend it's still wednesday. ahem.
What I just finished reading:
the hundred thousand kingdoms, which had some nifty worldbuilding and which i enjoyed, altho i wish there was a pronunciation guide. i mean, how do you pronounce "yeine"? i'm kind of curious about the next book in the series, altho i'm not desperate to read the next part of the story. i mean, the hundred thousand kingdoms ends on a pretty final note.
What I am reading now:
slumdog millionaire, by vikas swarup, mostly because i needed something to read and it was there. it is and isn't like the movie, but not in a bad way - the book skips around in time and the movie is very linear - but a lot of the dialogue is kind of stilted, almost like the author hasn't really listened to the way people talk to each other. but i like ram mohammad thomas and his best friend selim, and sometimes that's all i can ask for.
What I'm going to read next:
not a clue.
bleodswean pimped gregory maguire at me, so maybe him.
mostly enjoyed sleepy hollow - ichabod and zoe are so cute, and i hope nothing horrible happens to her - also ichabod apparently likes fruity cocktails, which is adorable - altho i'm really done with betsy ross the superspy. nikki reed is still pretty terrible. on the other hand, i can totally watch for team witness + jenny&joe and be reasonably satisfied.
elementary is back, much to my delight, but i don't have anything particularly insightful to say about it other than joan continues to be fantastic.
also, john noble as holmes senior. i may or may not be able to see him as anyone other than henry crane, tho.
and now i'm watching haven, and it doesn't suck! i can't get into the mytharc at all, but the rest of it doesn't suck! which, yay.
this is an interesting article about clementine paddleford, a journalist who changed the way americans write about food. she gave it the kind of respect that other journalists gave more acceptably-serious topics. also, she would fly herself around the country in pursuit of a story.
the union of reform judaism passed a resolution with a bunch of recommendations designed
to explicitly welcome transgender jews. judaism apparently recognizes
six genders, so in a way it makes total sense for reform jews to officially welcome trans folks.
yale has an online database of
photos from 1935-1945 and my inner researcher is beside herself with glee.
