today is antoni gaudi's birthday. in addition to some gorgeous and faintly surreal buildings in barcelona, he
designed a hotel for new york city in 1908. it was never built, but it did make it into an episode of fringe.
today is also george orwell's birthday, and in his honor,
someone put party hats on surveillance cameras in utrecht city center.
so we're all moved into the new building at work, and i think i liked the old building better. the ceilings are lower in the new space and there are more small rooms and they're crowded with cubicles, so the place in general feels more cramped. the kitchen is really nice, tho, and the copy room - well, A copy room - is really close to mine and coworker d's cubes, so we don't have to walk all over the place to run copies and bind reports. and i like the new neighborhood. but by and large i think i like the old space better. i have a wee coat closet at the end of my cube, tho, and that's pretty cool.
but the place is ruthlessly air conditioned. brr.
also they want to extend my contract through august, so i have two more months, and yes i did do a happy dance when i found out.
now i'm around the corner from
gnomi's office so i met her for lunch, plus
celli who's in boston for some work training thing. we talked about hockey, because yesterday celli was a blackhawks fan in bruins country. we're going to do it again on thursday. :D
i have a cold and it pisses me off. it's june, ffs. and it makes me feel stupid and slow and i have a month until i post my bigbang and considering i've done nothing to it since i turned in the first draft in april, i should maybe get to work. except my head is stuffed up and i can't think.
i'm hosting writing group tomorrow - i think there are only going to be five of us which is good because the only place we can sit is around my dining room table, and i only have six chairs - and i need a writing exercise and i am ridiculously unprepared. i hate coming up with writing exercises. anyone have any suggestions?
