It's not so much getting Drew to Lexington as it is getting him into FBI custody, where he'll be better protected.

What a zinger of an episode - I enjoyed that from start to finish! And it gave everybody something to do that was relevant to the core plot. Brilliant writing, not a second of plot wasted.

Getting Drew 'out of Harlan' to Lexington is the first step to get Drew into custody, sentenced and into prison. The goons can obviously follow but in Harlon the marshalls are much more vulnerable. They don't have a base there, e.g. a secure building with cells and back up staff, in Harlan they're in 'enemy terretory' were most civilians are more likely not to help the feds or even side with the bad guys. So while the marshalls are in Harlan, the power balance is at least 50/50, if not even in favour of Augustine. Once they're in Lexington, they're on home turf, Drew can go into custody where he will be much easier to protect and becomes the FBI's problem. The goons probably will still follow and try to get to him while he's in the cells there, but at least the power balance is then in favour of the marschalls.

it was a fully-packed episode! yeah, no filler.

i like to think that if i'd given it more thought, i would've realized that once the marshals got drew to lexington he could be put in fbi custody where he'd be protected from theo, plus it's more of the marshals' home turf. but my thought processes just never got that far. >.< but it makes sense now.
