son, you've got a condition

first, it was apparently so hot in dc on friday that a plane sank into the tarmac at the airport. oops.

second, i am home. :D and since i mentioned it, it was BRUTALLY FUCKING HOT in north carolina. but also really green and pretty and durham is a cute city, or at least the parts i saw of it were cute, and there's a still-active train track running thru the middle of downtown, the same grade as the road. (ie, not down in a culvert or up on a bridge or something.) i know this because a train came thru wednesday night, before the fireworks. and i went "a train! right thru the middle of town! how cool!" and wrenlet no doubt thought i was nuts. the most random things make me happy, what can i say. other things we did, which also made me happy: saw the avengers (verdict: as good as i hoped and possibly even better, chris "brick shithouse" hemsworth is too hot to be real, would totally see again) and magic mike (verdict: channing tatum is really hot on stage and really cute off it, needed more matt bomer, liked it a lot) and the first two seasons of community (verdict: funny, silly, kinda meta, kinda nerdy, surprisingly serious, completely fucking adorable) and, er, step up (verdict: channing tatum looks EXACTLY THE SAME, just now he's a little bulkier). also we walked around duke *waves to deirdre_c* and ate from food trucks (three times!) and saw fireworks from the back deck of a bar near the durham baseball stadium and went to the farmers' market (where i took pictures of produce) and a used-book store and a country store (which was crammed with REALLY COOL SHIT) (including a 1920s remington typewriter) and had lunch at a waffle house and assembled a grill (well, wren assembled and i supervised :D ) and successfully grilled burgers and without setting a. the house, b. the burgers, or c. wren on fire and i had a shrimp burger for lunch on friday which was more exciting for me than it probably sounds. oh, and there was some fangirling, because there always is. :D and i had a fabulous time.

and then security confiscated my green pepper jelly at the airport. >.< because it was over three ounces and i was afraid the jar would break if i packed it in my suitcase, and it totally did not occur to me that security might not let me take it on the plane. at least i got to keep the watermelon pickles. (i mentioned the country store, right? i've never had a watermelon pickle.)

and now i'm home and have spent waaaaaaay more time than i meant to being distracted by tv and i really don't want to go to work tomorrow. did i miss anything? if you have stuff to share - or you want to talk about the avengers or magic mike or community :D - please do!

we're havin' a heat wave, fun with friends, movies, community, travel
