whose bright idea was it to have the fourth of july in june?

there are going to be town fireworks in the field across the street from my house later tonight, which means that the street is currently full of people and carnival food trucks - by which i mean FRIED DOUGH - and there's a temporary stage right across from me which is currently hosting some band singing disco songs. we had uso singers before - three of them, with a group name that's closer to "uso girls" or something - they sang what i guess might be uso standards, starting with the andrews sisters and ending with that proud to be an american song, plus songs for all five branches of the armed services. (they have one for the coast guard! which shouldn't have surprised me but kind of did.) there are a couple guys standing on my front porch. i hope they know the folks who live in the apartment behind mine, otherwise i think that's rude.

i'm kind of impatiently waiting for it to get dark enough for fireworks, because a. fireworks! right in front of my house! excitement! but also b. this band will shut up. i feel like an old crank because i want them to turn the music down and yes you may all laugh at me.

it would be wrong to have fried dough for dinner, wouldn't it.

i love where i live
