happy birthday annkiri, opera director and fangirl, wherever you are! i hope you have cake. :D

dancing boys: *tango*

i keep forgetting that embroiderama asked me questions!

1) How did you get into making books?
i saw a one-day class for basic bookbinding at the cambridge center for adult ed, and it looked interesting. and then i decided i wanted to make ephemera a guest book for her wedding. and then i saw a class for coptic binding (which is mostly what i do) at the paper source in cambridge, and realized hey, i can do this without needing a lot of specialized equipment or supplies, other than bookboard and appropriate thread! and it looks good! it scratched a crafty itch, basically, and it was something new and different that i hadn't seen anyone really do before. and i kind of wanted to be able to make things for people.

2) What is your favorite kind of cupcake?
a fresh frosted one! with buttercream. i like moist cakey ones with four inches of frosting on top. i'm a big fan of chocolate cupcakes with non-chocolate frosting, but i'm not picky. sometimes i want a nice lemony one - the lucky cupcake at kick*ss cupcakes near me is really good.

3) What do you like most about your current abode?
my living room where my plants live. :D also that the place is smaller and cozier (and cheaper) than my old apartment. and i have a washer and dryer in the kitchen. seriously, i totally won the rental lottery with that.

4) If you could time travel to just one place for one day, where/when would you go?
maybe new york in 1930 or 1931, so i can watch the empire state building being built and enjoy the fact that the chrysler building is currently the tallest building in the world. (it was for a whopping eleven months.) chicago or la in the mid-20s, say 1927, in the spring. toyko in 1923, for the opening of frank lloyd wright's imperial hotel, altho that would put me there right in time for a terrifying earthquake - it was an 8.3 and flattened the city - so maybe not.

5) What about fandom would you change if you could?
i'm tempted to say i'd make everyone more tolerant of other people's ships (or lack thereof), but i myself am occasionally judgemental in the shipping department, so that probably won't work. i don't know! oh, wait, i do. i'd weed out the crazycakes divorced-from-reality fans, the kinds of people who try to get the boyfriends/girlfriends/spice/partners of their objects of affection kicked out of cons. the fans who make other fans look bad.

6) If you had to listen to one song all day, what would it be?
i would go OUT OF MY MIND. hmm. make you feel better, by the red hot chili peppers. because after a whole day of listening to it i might have figured out all the words. and it's bouncy.

7) Is there a movie/TV/literary character with whom you particularly identify?
i don't think so.... i did take it kind of personally when criminal minds kept making spencer the damsel in distress, but more because he was my favorite and the ptb were being mean to him and less because i identified with him. he's much smarter than i am, for one. i mean, really, MUCH. and i like to think i'm more socially ept.... also i had a much less traumatic and much more "normal" upbringing. and while i don't have the most fashion-forward fashion sense, i don't dress like i raided my grandfather's closet either.

james cameron breaks record for deepest solo ocean dive - he went to the bottom of the mariana trench, as deep as anyone's gone in fifty years. i love that he's using his movie millions to do science. and it's really interesting (and kinda scary) science, too.

secret agent calvin and hobbes meet dr robin and pooh - christopher robin and winnie-the-pooh as evil masterminds! and calvin and hobbes as secret agents! how cool is that?

calvin and hobbes, science!, you got questions i got answers
