i slept thru my alarm this morning and was thus late to work. (i went to bed late and couldn't sleep, and instead of my body's annoying-ass habit of waking me up half an hour early, it woke me up almost an hour and a half late.) and yet today is still better than yesterday. it stopped raining last night and the sun came out, for one thing. and ( Read more... )

Mentioning "worldbuilding" in my presence will just make me blink at you confusedly, so :D

(Are you tuning in for Justified tonight? It looks like violent fun and also, Timothy Olyphant.)

yes but you don't write fic where you have to do it! which means occasionally i envy you A LOT.

(i am! i don't know if i've ever seen him in anything - i never saw deadwood because i don't get hbo - but i've seen the damn previews so many times that i can't NOT watch the pilot. plus which, guys in cowboy hats carrying guns. :D )

Yes, by virtue of the fact that when I have an idea requiring worldbuilding, I just never write it.

plus which, guys in cowboy hats carrying guns. :D

the funny thing is it's so true. if i'd known i'd lose 7-8 yrs to worldbuilding and still feel like i'm not finished (and the story is definitely not finished) well, i'd think the ONLY sensible recourse would be to back away slowly and find something practical (read: money-making) to do with my time. i do say that is why i refuse to take on any new universes. if it doesn't fit in this one--it's S.O.L. it can go find another writer's head to land in. =)

fortunately your 'verse seems big enough to encompass EVERYTHING. well, maybe not space opera, altho i wouldn't be surprised if you found a place for that too.

you'll finish it someday.... theoretically....

don't encourage it, it's like kudzu. i'm sure it would love to eat a space opera, given opportunity.

it's a balance i haven't quite figured out how to manage yet. the post-apocalypse keeps being written around the half-assed worldbuilding which might be why it's so scattershot....
