converted churches - mostly converted into houses, but there's one that was converted into a bookstore. NIFTY. i would actually really like living in a converted church. it's the ceilings. :D i mean,
check this out - is that not gorgeous? (i wouldn't have put a bed at the end of the dining room, but otherwise. i'm curious to see a floor plan.)
gummy bear chandelier - from the sublime to the ridiculous. and also cute and kitschy. don't you just want a gummy bear now? :D
criminal minds last night was cree-pee but notable mostly for being one of the very few episodes where the case itself made me cry. it might be the only one where the case itself (independent of any of the agents or their reactions) made me cry. and yes i'm always a drippy mess by the end of mayhem but that's because garcia is morgan's god-given solace and she can't promise anything because she's mad at him. and i was a drippy mess during 100 and the beginning of slave of duty because of hotch and haley and jack. last night? TOTALLY the case - the show was actually kind of cruel to victims and their families and oh man, i needed a kleenex.
and also it was matthew's first episode directing, and he did an excellent job. the music especially was very nicely disturbing. two thumbs up.
and i never seem to use my prentiss icon and that's not right, so here she is. hi emily. :D she's much more cheerful than the episode (or i) was.
i think because i went from cm, which is really about ordinary people, to nip/tuck, which is about beautiful people, the way that everyone on cm looks so normal really struck me. the mom of an eight-year-old looks like a mom - she wears jeans and hoodies and yes she has tv-camera skin but she doesn't have salon hair and she looks like someone you'd see in the grocery store wheeling a cart, or picking up her kid after school in a four-year-old suv. she's not beautiful when she cries. her husband looks like a dad, about the same age she is and not bad-looking but not a hunk and not a lovable shlub either. their eight-year-old looks, you know, eight. she's a cute kid but not perfect-looking. all the parents last night looked like that, like parents. they're not the beautiful people. and yes, cm casts a lot of young, skinny, pretty actresses, but they cast the not-young, the not-skinny, and the not-conventionally-pretty as well. not everyone's dressed like a sexpot.
(it might help if i mention that the actress i'm thinking about is
brooke smith, whose first big movie role was catherine martin, buffalo bill's size-sixteen victim in the silence of the lambs. she's not unattractive by any means but she's got kind of a horsey face and her eyes look a little too close together and she's not a model-pretty actress. and in jeans and a hoodie and grief all over her face, she could've been any woman who let go of her daughter for three seconds and then lost her. which may be more of a testament to her acting.... and she was really good, i have to say.)
i'm just talking about the guest stars here, not the regulars. the regulars are still a bunch of good-looking people, with allowances for the occasionally terrible hair and questionable fashion sense. :D
does anyone watch nip/tuck? because the series finale was last night and oh my god, that show has only ever been about how much sean and christian love each other. it is exceptionally slashy. (and also surreal, ridiculous, absurd, cracky, way the hell over the top, and gory.) i'm not going to miss it because it was too ott for me and i really, really, really did not like the loving bloody closeups of whatever surgical procedure was the medical focus for each episode, but i kind of admire the ptb for making a show that's explicitly about the very close relationship between two very hetero men, and i think with only a nudge in one direction it could easily cross into the physical and still be canon.
i might have had a thought about white collar from tuesday but i can't remember it, other than wow, the ptb are almost as invested in the ot3 as the fans are. and mozzie and elizabeth being friends is completely adorable. and peter is kind of jealous and pissy when someone else gets to work with his boyfriend pet convict.
burn notice season finale tonight. i expect explosions.
