in grass skirts, even. :D
so cindy mccain appeared in
an anti-prop8 ad, in support of same-sex marriage. go her. i kind of doubt she would've done that if her husband had been elected president, tho....
i feel like i should say something about last night's criminal minds, after all the babbling i've done about the show, but most of my comments are pretty shallow.
the episode actually felt like it was about the case for once, and it was creepy in a non-squickifying kinda way - cm really does seem more and more like the go-to show for creepiness - and while i still don't like spencer's hair i do love how much he dresses like an actual adult, instead of a kid pretending to be an adult. (seriously - watch s1 and s2. that's a guy who desperately wants people to overlook how young he really is, giant brain notwithstanding. you can see in s4 and parts of s3 how much he's growing up, in his clothes as well as his confidence.) also jj has a terrible poker face and my love for garcia cannot be textually rendered. the first scene was very hard to watch - let's be honest, parents discovering their kids hanging from bathrobe ties is pretty heartbreaking - but the last scene, on the plane, was adorable. "there's a lot to hate about you, dr reid." heh. poor spencer - he's so easy to tease. i love that his reaction to prentiss' fairy tale was basically "that doesn't make any sense", and he seemed kind of baffled that anyone would like it. such a logical boy. she didn't seem to get that much screen time, so i was pleased she got some focus.
i figured out as soon as they introduced him that the kid's dad was the unsub, altho the kid did look kind of suspicious, and i really love how much faith hotch has in his tech analyst - not just that she can do her job (because there's never any question that she can do her job) but that she can handle pretty much anything else he asks her to do. he asks her to step out of her comfort zone and she always says "but i'm not trained to do that, sir" (which i always interpret as "i can't do that, sir") but then... she does it. and i don't think hotch is ever surprised. i think a lot of times garcia is, but her boss? not so much. and so when he asked her to go talk to the kid - whose name i wish i could remember, because he was so sad and i just felt so bad for him, and he opened up to her - and rossi leaned over and said to hotch "she's good", and then when the kid's dad came to get him and told him garcia was just trying to trick him and you could see how horrible and guilty she felt that he'd think that, i thought of the end of house on fire. "getting into someone's mind and trying to find the god-awful thing that happened to them that made them do the god-awful thing to somebody else has seriously impaired my ability to giggle, and it makes my brain all wonky and i don't like it." and hotch tells garcia in so many words how much he values her as a team member, and he appreciates all the work she did on the case because he knows how hard it was for her to play profiler.
...the episode was all about the case and instead i talked all about garcia. heh. she's my favorite nerdygirl, what can i say. also i think the red hair is growing on me.
oddly enough last night's nip/tuck (and i cannot believe i still watch this show) had a side plot involving autoerotic asphyxiation, so there were some bits with characters choking each other and themselves to get a better orgasm and oh yeah, almost dying in the process. not the same thing as the game on cm, but close enough for a o.O face.
cm is a rerun next week. i'm kind of annoyed. i mean, i'll miss it on account of i have writing group, but i'm still annoyed.
let me tell you something - i've had a few days of feeling stupid and useless and completely unequipped to write the stories i've signed on to write, but talking about cm makes me feel less so. not that i have any great insights into the show, because i don't, and not that i discuss it in any depth, because i don't do that either - i just ramble a lot after i get started - but it's something i can talk about with a certain amount of conviction and joy, and that makes me feel better.
eliot was cranky and got to beat people up, parker got to commune with an old safe - did she sing to it? o.O she's such a nutbar - and hardison pulled a sudden random bit of deception out of his ass and in the process got to take his shirt off. the thing i like about leverage is one of the things i like about criminal minds, namely the way the team seems to share a brain when they're working a case or running a scam and they just expect the audience to keep up, altho leverage seems to rely a lot on showing you what happened after the fact. but i don't watch it expecting great television. i just want to grin at the screen for an hour, and it lets me.
new burn notice tonight, woot! also a rerun of tuesday's white collar. also also new spn, which might actually be good, who knows. at least i'm unspoiled for the rest of the season.
