i just spent some quality time totally unexpectedly telling rich the coworker about cynthia ann parker. this makes even less sense if i tell you i came into the conversation when he and the other architect were talking about michael jackson's nose.

sort of in that vein, verb_noire has put out a submission call for ya retellings of non-european folktales for an anthology. if this is your kind of thing, check it out. sounds interesting.
zombie ants - this fungus in thailand basically zombifies the ants to get the ants to move to a better spot for them to die. (ie, a better spot for the fungus to grow.) i am CREEPED OUT by this.
