i made ephemera a book for her birthday and now that it has actually reached her i can share some pics, because it's no longer a surprise. (yes i know her birthday was in april, shut up.)
That is absolutely beautiful. So lucky is ephemera. The spine comes through enough that one can see it's excellence yet there are details that probably, like when you aren't wearing your glasses, you don't realise you are missing.
Have you thought of using cloth instead of paper on the covers? Paper is probably cheaper and there's less wastage since there are limits to the size of fabric they will sell but there would be an increase in possible choices. Probably have to use fray check for the cover binding piercings.
that is kind of what the spine would look like if i wasn't wearing my glasses.... heh.
i went to the fabric store to look for brocade, but they didn't have anything i liked. which was a bummer, because i think it would've looked really nice. and i buy these huge sheets of paper, so having to buy a big piece of fabric to cover a little book isn't a big deal. i like having some left over. :D and! i could probably use grommets in the binding holes to help prevent weird frayage.
i have to make the book for my sweet charity bidder, and then i have another (late >.< ) birthday present, and then i'm totally going to try covering one in fabric, because it's a really cool idea.
(It is actually out of print at the moment, in the hinterlands between being a Single Shot and me getting the physical contract into my hands so it can go back out again as a Classic. But it will be back!)
